    Port transmission

Thatblast thread made me curious. My transmissions run fine, but the port one whine in reverse. The starboard does not. Everything else is fine. Any thoughts on this? Just in reverse. Also I've read thread sindicating there may be issues with port transmissions. Why is that. Btw mine are M20s hooked to 8v71 tis.

    Re: Port transmission

Alisons had an issue with the port gear output bearings. If you split the coupling and find there is play in the output flange, you probably have a bad bearing. Usually you'll have some indication that it's failing such as vibration, worn cutlass bearings or shaft misalignment.

Thanks Jack. I haven't noticed any vibration but I will check for play once I take it out of the water after winterizing.
