Epirbs are the right product for the vessel. A PLB is a personal locator beacon that's not as well supported out at sea. I'd have an epirb on the boat with a raft and a ditch bag. Make sure it's all properly registered and also the dsc on your radio.

This unit combined 406 and GPS.
It GPS identifies its location, transmits that detail over 406 then shuts down for 20 minutes to conserve power then repeats the process.
