    37C Cutlass Bearing Advice

Working on the running gear yesterday and noticed that a rubber sleeve from what I assume is a cutlass bearing, behind the stuffing box at the thru hull has worked back exposing 1.5" of the rubber. Does anyone have experience replacing this part? I assume it is a cutlass bearing. Is it the same size as the one in the strut? I have to remove the shaft and pull it from the outside? Can't leave it alone can I?
Love to know the dimensions and part #. Of course I notice this now!
Any help is very appreciated. Hal

Pull the shaft. Pull the set screws and replace it.

While your at it change the stuffing box hoses and clamps. It's the same labor to pull the shafts for the cutlass bearings as it is for the stuffing boxes.

How do they get water to the cutlass bearing to lubricate it?

There is a small hose that runs from the raw water intake to the flange. In the past I have forgotten about that and sent a lot of antifreeze on the ground when winterizing!

SAMS will have the bearing. In my case, you cut a shaft bearing in two. My 48 has no lubrication for the rudder shafts. That shaft rotates very slowly and doesn't need it.
