I too, have a problem with diesel fuel. Gasoline is now below $3 a gallon in NC and diesel is still $3.65 a gallon! I smell ripoff.

    Re: diesel fuel

I thought diesel used to be .20 cheaper a gallon than glass ???

    Re: diesel fuel

It was. But we are getting into the heating season when it goes up- it's similar enough to HHO that it all comes out of the middle of the barrel, so diesel users are competing with users of HHO and it raises the price.

And, of course, the ripoff theory may be true as well. Unfortunately.

It's expensive to make ULSD. Cost a lot extra to make it to the satisfaction of the epa. It's also terrible for the pumps and injectors.

There's also much more oil in diesel fuel compared to gas. The refining cost is the same for a gallon of gas regardless of the price of the raw materials. As the material cost rises the refining cost is amortized in the price and gas gets cheaper than diesel. If oil was $30 a barrel diesel should be cheaper than gas.

So that begs the question...........do any of you supplement your fuel with additives? If so which ones?

    I'm using optilube summer blend.

Best additive I've seen for lubricity when used at 1 qt to 300 gals.

We don't have cold weather or I'd used their XPD.

When we put the cats in the 34 in 71 diesel was .17 vs .35 for gas. It was always cheaper until the gas shortages of the early 80's when some one figured out that people who buy diesel had no choice as it was mostly commercial operators trucks etc. the oh it cost more to make argument falls apart if you look at the timeline of price increases. I remember in 81-82 during the height of the "shortage" weaving my way down cheasepeak bay because it was packed with tankers all low in the water. When I got to Norfolk the Congo line of tankers extended through the bay bridge as far as the eye could see.

It's true that diesel powers industry and diesel users generally pay for it or don't work.
