Look at Prairie trawlers, I think they are called. They were designed by Jack Hargrave (I thuink) and well made. There aren't a lot of them. Also look at Atlantics, the 47 model, also a Hargrave design, looks a bit like a Hatteras, very well-built and friendly boat to own and run. Many Atlantics had CAT 3208s which are a nice old engine, not a hot rod but reliable and easy to service and get stuff for.

I would suggest that this search is more about the condition of the individual boat that you find to buy, as opposed to the brand name etc. All of the boats you are thinking about are old, which means condition (careful and complete surveys) means more than the brand. Sure, all other things being equal, you'd like a solid and nice Hatteras or Atlantic over a solid and nice Taiwanese trawler- but you would definitely want a solid and nice Taiwanese trawler over a clapped-out anything else.
