    53 Extended Deckhouse

What was the last year the 53 ED came with 71's? I have decided that this may very will be my next boat but I don't want one with 92's.

The change was in 1985. Some 85's came with 8V71's and they switched to the 6V92's for the rest of the run.

    Hull number 748 has 71's
    Hull number 759 has 92's

Not sure exactly when the switch was made but it was somewhere between those numbers.

The 92's were bumped up from 465hp to 485hp on hull number 760 and up.

And I totally disagree about the 92s. They are the better engine at this hp rating.

My hull is 750, so perhaps this is the first 6V92 boat. The engines have been trouble free except one turbo failed in 8 years of ownership. It likely failed from not enough use. Not bad. I burn 1 gallon of oil in 200 hours, hull speed cruise and occasional spin up to clear the turbos.

    2700 hours on ours.
