How does the DD stop button work?

Interesting question raised in another post. I have heard conflicting explanations.

He didn't ask how it does it. He asked how the button works.

FWIW it shuts the fuel to the injectors.

I don't know how there can be any debate.
There is a solenoid on top of the right bank thermostat housing. There is a lever on the solenoid that connects to the governor and pulls the racks to the no fuel position to stop the engine.
    The solenoid is DC operated.

This is a governor for a 71/92 the knurled post is the shutdown that the solenoid attaches to. The other post is the throttle. The front pic shows the fly weights. It's all mechanical and pushes and pulls a rod going to each rack. As I understand the shutdown solenoid forces the racks to the closed position. On start up the racks are full open and close when the flyweights spin. If the flyweights stick or a spring breaks the engine will seem as though it's in run away mode on startup. Which is why you should always be ready on the shutdown.
