    Good Mechanical Inspector needed

    Hello all,

You guys gave me a few great surveyor recommendations on another thread here, but I was wondering if anyone knows a good Hat surveyor in WESTERN FLORIDA (or anywhere in Florida for that matter)? Also, if you know of a good Detroit engine inspector, someone who really knows there stuff, it would be very helpful.

A.J. Volney in Englewood Florida is very good along with his DD mechanic...

Right up front Dave is a buddy and a very capable detroit mechanic in the clearwater area.

Not listening to him would be crazy.

Not hiring him would be too.

Well, Volney and his buddy did my 43 dc were very very thorough and fair priced, also, saved me from a potential disaster on a 42 Bert. YMMV and others also...

You might be wise to figure out who really knows the area and who knows the boat business. Figure out who really knows what they are talking about.

This fellow was flown in (actually drove up to NC) to do the engine surveys on my recent sale (two 8v92Tis and an Onan/Cummins genset). I spent quite a bit of time with him over the course of a couple of days. Very experienced, knowledgable, thorough, and fair. Also quite articulate and amicable. I thought he did an excellent job for his client; neither I or my mechanic had any issues with his findings (nor could we chuckle to each other "how did he miss that?"). I would definitely use him if buying a boat with Detroits in that area if he was available.

Yeah, that's the problem It's so much easier when 2 or 3 recommend the same person and agree. Maybe more recommendations will come. I still have a couple days to hire someone.

I'll say Wayne is definitely a boat guy. Commercial captain that also runs dive boats among many other past nautical pursuits. He knows Hatteras' quite well as I learned first hand.

From what i have learned on this forum Dave (captddis) would be a good guy to know, and help with the new-to-you boat. As I recall you have no boating experience.
