insurance survey

I gave Markell a survey 4 years ago when I bought the boat. I just recieved an email from them requesting another survey to keep it insured. Is this common or is it a unique request?

Just wondered.

That stinks. I bought our boat almost three years ago so maybe I have this to look forward to. I hope not though. I'll be following this post. My gut feeling is this isnt normal. Who knows with Markel though.

I don't know if it's an "industry standard" for older boats but it's quite common for an ins company to require a survey periodically. Five years seems to be fairly common. It was a surprise to me the first time it happened but now it's just a "routine" thing. My ins company requires the survey but it's an in-water survey with no sea trial or haulout required so the last cost me about 400 bucks for our 53MY.

There may be some companies that don't require it but pretty much everybody I know that has owned a particular boat for more than 5 years has to have the boat resurveyed at a 5 year interval.

Very common, usually every 5 years and normally in-water is sufficient.

Six years since purchase and no insurance survey yet, and we just renewed in July. ACE is my insurer.
