TYPE-A steering fluid

Re: TYPE-A steering fluid
Yes, Dexron.
However, if the boat has the original Hynautic steering, the proper fill is hydraulic fluid 5606 OR "Hynautic" brand fluid. Hynautic is 4x the price of 5606 - Hynautic figured out they could make money by rebranding/selling hydraulic fluid. Though not available everywhere like ATF, 5606 can be purchased at any aircraft-type shop or on line. I bought a gallon when we bought the boat in 2004 , flushed/filled the system and still have the same (roughly) half gallon that was left from the flush/fill.
By 1980, Hynautic was stating that ATF was suitable IF 5606 was not available. ATF will work but the steering is stiffer with ATF than with 5606.Mike P
