It doesn't make sense until you research this artists body of work and what his earlier pieces like this are selling for at the auction houses. In this case $500 would be a steal.

However, you may remember the Hatteras zippo lighter I "HAD TO HAVE" that I paid stupid money for so your point holds some water.

If we label it as "early work" and classify him as a minimalist and call it a sketch for one of his eventual master works, and we can prove provenance, and he signs it...... I'd slap $50 bucks on that thing and whistle all the way to the bank !!!!

Ahhhh, here you can see the evolution of the artist, the strong lines, the intricate pen work, the inclusion of back scape and his attention to depth and the soul of his subject....

I'd put an auction estimate on this piece without matting or frame of $80.

This artist, in this reviewers opinion has potential for greatness.....
