See Passagemaker this month, if you haven't already. Ten articles on great circle cruises, including the TS Waterway. Have fun..sounds like a great time.

Thanks...I got Passagemaker. Interesting articles on Great Circle Route. Sounds like tons of interesting places along the way.

Last month's article on propshafts was interesting too, except at odds with Pascoe. He says trying to get engine alignment within thousandths is silly because the shaft self-aligns somewhat differently underway versus at the dock and a LOT differently in the water versus on the hard. So the experts disagree.....

My local Detroit Diesel is absolutely worthless. I went to DD of Florida in Miami and asked for the twin-pack cleaner for the radiator for my 8v92TIs. Waited a half an hour or more....they guy says he's never heard of it and has nothing to offer to clean the radiator. He said he'd look into that deeper and call me back in a day or so. I got a call back and was told DD no longer makes anything like that. So what do I use?????

Next (on another day), I asked DD about the coolant additives...DD rep said he's never heard of such a thing which is total BS since it's mentioned in the service manual I bought from them and I told him that. He responded with the suggestion that since it's for marine use that I should probably call another DD in some other geographical location. I'm in the yachting capital of the world for crying out loud! And they've NEVER HEARD OF NEEDING THE ADDITIVE...and they don't get many requests for marine stuff???? I kid you not...that's what I was told. Just absolutely worthless, I tell you! These are the same folks that said to use ordinary automotive antifreeze in my marine DDs. I didn't even get around to asking for the impellers...why bother...they probably don't know what an impeller is.

But...they do have pencil zincs for the bargain price of $20 EACH! Got them elsewhere for a third of the price and that was at one of those "expensive marine stores".

Any suggestions where to go from here? I need the additives to mix with distilled water for my radiators (freezing is not an issue for me), and I need to clean/flush them first. I have the 8v92 and understand there are "crevices issues" somewhere in there that makes it very important to get the coolant mixture/formula right.

Geezus. Call Saunders in Panama City and have them send you the additive. Its not expensive.

Diesel Pro - already checked there - don't have it. They referred me to DD.

I sent an email to Sauders telling them what I need. Hopefully, that will get me what I need. I'm never going to get out of the slip at this rate!

Speaking of trying to get it all together and get out of the slip....I called Galley Maid about my new fresh water pump that runs too hot to touch....despite the Galley Maid label on it, it's not their pump according to the serial number - it's a Razz pump. I asked GM why their name and logo was on it - he said the answer to that question involved a lot of lawyers and three lawsuits. GM could fix it if something is truly wrong with it, but they cannot honor any warranty on it. Nothing is simple or easy lately.

Mystery solved: Saunders has informed me that the twin pack is no longer sold because it worked all too well and the EPA made them shut that down. If that stuff can be procured out of the country (like good bottom paint), Saunders wants in on a piece of that! I was told to just use the best automotive radiator cleaner I could find. They really miss that twin pack cleaner - said there's just nothing like it.

So, any suggestions on what is the best automotive radiator cleaner?

P.S. Bob at Saunders was very, very helpful and quite a friendly fellow. I asked him to ship the additives to me and he said I could save money on shipping, etc. by asking DD for the stuff, BY PART NUMBER, and he gave me the part number, so I'll see if my local DD can find what I need with part number since they have no clue what "coolant additive" is.

Bob's a good guy....he knows me - I don't think dropping my name will get you a discount, but I bet he misses my visits
