    Voltage is an indication but the reading will be affected by the load on the bank while reading the voltage... Ex it your fridge compressor is running along with a few other things, voltage will read lower. Often when an inverter shuts down as voltage reaches the user preset cut off setting, You will see higher voltage one the remote after shutdown

    Most inverters have original monitor which can compute total AH used and % charge left.

    If the voltage reading drops much below 12 volts, either your load is too heavy which should trip a breaker, or you have a possible problem, time to look into it.

    Excellent point Sky. If a 220v unit is to be replaced, one consideration could be to install a step down transformer, 240v to 120v, and not worry about the load balance.

    Us poor folk with 2 x 30amp service have an entirely different set of problems. Either leg could be running close to maximum depending on loads.
