Can somebody help with testing a 32 volt alternator, when running at all RPM's I get no output on multi meter or dash guage, also when shut down no voltage at + lead on alternator, ign key on or off. Alt. is 2 lead + and - Delco Remy 32 volt 50 amp, 25SI and I think an internal rectifier.
Thanks Stewart

Re: 32 volt alternator testing
If thats a DELCOTRON (internal regulator) The Hobbs switch isnt necessary. That was originally used to disconect the field after a shutdown. I changed mine from the original external regs and retired the Frankenstein stuff in place.
If you take a voltmeter to it, with the engine OFF there should be DC voltage at the + post on the alternator. If not, the line is open, thats why I thought of the Hobbs switch. EXSPURTS? ws
