Seriously thats legit. Its max from a WOT run up the ICW yesterday on the way home from fishing. It aint no race boat but its not a slug like REB tells everybody.

Girl, you sure are SENSITIVE!!!!
All I said was I thought top speed was about 18 [or 19] knots and cruise about 15 [or 16kts]....or something close to those numbers... so I was off a knot or two .....better for the guy considering one than no info at all....Rob Brueckner

I have hit 21.5 on my series 1 41C with the original 8v53's so that number is not at all out of line. Remember that convertible owners who run and fish seem to collect less junk on the boats.

Re: How fast is a gen 1 50c?
I guess being called a girl is as close to an apologie as you get from REB. Should have fished with us on sunday and we'd see who the girl was.
Any way a lot of ppl have been conjecturing on how much fuel burn is at low speeds. At the price of fuel and since I don't have to run far to fish these days I pretty much drop the lines as soon as I clear the sea bouy. I hit the reset last August when I filled up. I get a pretty good bulk quantity discount at the commercial dock so I always fill the tanks. My moving average speed over the last 800 and some miles was 7 kts. When I topped off we took 740 gallons. Pretty close to the 1 nmpg that everyone talks about. If I crank it to 2100rpm it pulls 42gph at right at 19kts well over 2 g/nm. Looks like it realy pays to slow down."DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING YOU READ OR HEAR AND ONLY HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE" - BEN FRANKLIN

I guess you don't have the 8V71N's like my friend Billy Black at Walker's Cay. His cruise daily was 11-12 knots and he got 35K hours before doing the top end.
Pretty impressive for a 50C of that vintage and a great boat.

Re: How fast is a gen 1 50c?
i dont doubt the speed. so many boat salesman have told me older Hatts are 'tubs', slow and fuel hogs. in my '70 45' with 8v71n with n 80 injectors i can do 22 knots wide open, 2250 approx, and cruise at 18 at 2000 rpm. the boat isnt overweight with 3 sets of china and all of grandmas clothes and 40 years of gadgets and electronics and dead ended wiring, its relatively light. on the slings it weighs 37000 with full fuel, much less weight than comparable new boats of similar quality. someday Ill loose the stub shafts and muffs and pick up my next knot of speed!
