    Cutlass bearing size?

Do any of you know the OD of the cutlass bearings (or ID of the struts) for a 2" shaft on a 58 YF? Paxton shows a 2-5/8" OD and a 3" OD for this shaft. Just thinking about diving the boat in our 37 deg water causes way too much "shrinkage"!

Always measure after removal if replacing unless you know they have never been worked on...

    Re: Cutlass bearing size?

Thanks guys for the information/advice. Is there anything different (size, removal, installation, etc.) I should know about the cutlass bearing in the shaft alley, just behind the packing gland?

    Re: Cutlass bearing size?

The're isnt a bearing in the shaft log. Only in the struts. You going to do this yourself?

I think he means the forward strut as pictured on my 56.

As you can see, in my case it would take a different length.

    Re: Cutlass bearing size?

Actually, I don't have a forward strut, only an "intermediate" (yes, seems like a contradiction) and the V-strut just forward of the prop. The shaft coupling is between these two struts, both of which appear to have the same length cutlass bearings. Several years ago I replaced these four bearings myself and I guess there may not be another cutlass bearing where the shaft penetrates the hull, but rather just the packing gland inside the hull.

    Re: Cutlass bearing size?

The 1510 X 58s do have a bearing in the shaft logs. The two struts are the same size and the log bearing has a larger (1/4"?) OD. rebel

Thanks Rebel. Great pics. Guess I'll wait until the boat has been hauled before ordering the shaft log bearing.
