advice on DD mechanic in Fort Lauderdale

I am new to the forum, been a water dog all my life. I think I have found the perfect project, 58CPMY in need of lots of work, I am not familiar with DD at all. one turbo on each engine is seized, I am looking for a mechanic that can tell me why and doesn't mind me looking over shoulder and chasing tools, I want to know the engines well so I can cruise with confidence in the future. The boat is a bank repo so I don't have any history on the boat, I am mechanically inclined and have been reading all the past post I can, any help in my search will be greatly appreciated.

I have used Fran Walker (954)-931-2846 and also Jack Di Bella of Marine Diesel & Engineering (954)-260-5250 on our 8-71 TI engines and 15KW Onan generator. To me, both have proven to be knowledgable, fair, honest and straight up about things.

Is that the one on the hard that some parts are not on the boat and the engines are truck blocks. If so I had someone look at it and there is questions about getting them right and serviceable. I have a friend that knows more about that boat if you need to find out.

Dane Collins. 954-410-1516. Very reasonable solo operator that's been around DD's for a long time. Tell him Paul Ludwick referred you. Takes care of a lot of the charter sportfishing fleet around here, and those guys don't like to waste a lot of money. Does genny work, too.

I'll second the reco for Fran Walker. I used him extensively after we bought our 54 a few months ago. He was honest and fair; fixed what needed to be done and didn't try to sell me things I didn't need. He also showed up when he said he would and completed work on time. If you use him, tell him I recommended him to you. The boat was named VEGAS GAL II when he did the work. Name has since been changed. l
