    Noel,

I am not sure who the supplier is, but Cat used Matterhorn White enamel topcoats on most of the earlier marine engines. You can get it from Cat in 12oz spray or gallon cans. The 12oz spray part number is 140-2576. The gallon can part number is 140-2577.

Materhorn white is available from other suppliers as well.

I think Hatteras may be using Cloud White on their engines today.

If your going with the spray can, a Rustoleum primer is probably as good as any. I would also consider using a rust encapsulator or sealer before priming and painting.

Clean of the crud and grease, Ospho or a similar product will arrest corrosion. Then a good primer and then paint. Oil based paints seem to be affected less than acrylics on engines in my experience.

    "rust encapsulator or sealer"

Isn't that what rustoleum is? Or is there another one better? Bloody paint flaked off, do not want the same mistake again.

I believe that rustoleum has their own version of a rust converter in a spray. Loctite has one called Extend Rust Neutralizer in a spray. For heavier rust, there are some brush on versions. Any of these should be available at Lowes or Home Depot.

Wire brush and clean first to remove what rust you can then coat with one of the rust converters before painting.

rustoleoum is fish oil based and will do a job as a primer and topcoat. I have used their primers on metal for years. Their topcoats are compatible with the primers so there is no guess work.
