So it was a good call. "When in doubt, don't go out."
Or this one. "If you're puking in a bucket, just say fu... furget it".
Well it was bad .No horizon for the lead boat and Bryon had gotten sick and was still trying to control the his boat while puking his guts out.Radar our ensign threw up all over Bren and she held it down herself. As for me as long as I could see Bright Angles formation light I had an artificial horizon.I could not sit down ,just braced my feet and my hands are still somewhat sore this morning. The TV got torn from its mounts and several things got broken. On the AGLCA members only site There is a weather guy called"Eddies Weather Wag".He has a better weather record than any other sorce the loopers can find for this crossing. As for being Lazy,we just need to be near New England by May.Do I want to get out of here?Hell yes!!!It dosent look good for next week and we are looking for 1-2s and not at night.I saw 18.7 kts at one time. The most dangerous part of the whole fiasco was when Bright Angel decided to turn back.We got way to close to each other making the turn, scary close!!So we wait.I'de rather be stuck here than at Steinhatchee and when we do get another window we plan on hauling ass out of here powered up and get this over with. Thanks for all the encouragement and comments.I'll keep you up to date.Robby Bren Radar Bryon Cynthia and Tuts.Crazzy Nufff and Bright Angel.
Just out of curiosity, why were you guys so close? Did Bright Angels do a "crazy Ivan"?
Robby, what was the forecast when you decided to leave, and how far had you gotten before turning back? Sounds quite harrowing. Glad you're safe.
I remember leaving Manitowoc for the other side of Lake Michigan with a forecast of 1-2's and started to wonder if I was going to make it to the other side (or back) by the time I was in the middle of it. Things can change in a hurry, and Mother Nature doesn't seem to pay much attention to forecasts.
Leave LOTS of space between you and the other guy, especially in rough water, as you never know what somebody might do either on purpose or by accident. Looks like he would have radioed his intentions vs just leaving you to wonder. Hope the weather is better next time.
That Manitowoc run was a cake walk...get in some ruff stuff where ya pray!
