Has anyone tried to translate NMEA 180 to 183 or vise versa? I have a good Robertson AP (NMEA 180) that will not take course deviation corrections from my cheapy GPS (NMEA 183 output). Is there a way to do this cheaply?
This Robertson holds a heading great but will not track to way points, etc. without NMEA 180 information.
There IS a later chip for most of the Robertsons will will enable NEMA 183.
The easiest way to do this is to find someone who still has the firmware chip. Simrad no longer sells them - I bought one when I first got Gigabite, as it had the same issue - it resolved it.
I do not recall which firmware issue had the update in it, but I bet Simrad will know - you could then look in eBAY - it goes in the head (display) unit.
