Internet cable wire and fittings
The Comcast Xfinity installer hooked me up on the starboard side. I have now turned the boat around and need to install a connection on the port side.
I will need a good crimping tool and best quality cable and connectors. Should I use a splitter or would it be better to hardwire straight to the router?
I have never done this before and want to learn how to do it right. Thanks!
Re: Internet cable wire and fittings
I'd hook, you up if you were closer. They do sell them in various lengths and might be easier if you never did it before.
Re: Internet cable wire and fittings
Do you need coax or cat6?

I think its coax. How Doug you tell?
Re: Internet cable wire and fittings
Coax is a center conductor with a shield surrounding it like your cable antenna uses.
Cat 5 or 6 has 4 twisted pairs that go into a computer style connector.

What cable did they use? It's usually 75 ohm but you need to be sure.

Re: Internet cable wire and fittings
Do you need A piece for inside or outside? It's a 75 ohm rg6 cable that can be had in different types.

Thanks. I’d llike a recommendation for the following:
A jack to mount in the waterproof cover on the port side, a 50 to 100 foot spool, good connectors and a crimper.
Would it degrade the signal to connect the port and stbd side with a splitter? Would I need a plug for the open side?
