Gotta keep working now,Yuk
Well, when things improve, and they will, more people will have money to buy boats. I don't think they will be worth any more than they are now, but at least more buyers will be out there. Good luck.
I doubt Romney will make it,, there are so many Americans on Gov't assist that Obama's army is getting stronger by the day. I think the US is now going to pay for all those great Liberal programs, affirmative action, lax immigration, lots of food stamps, job creation via taxpayers money, (actually is hidden unemployment), and another round of stimulus which has been a total failure except fore Gov't employees.
Is a sad thing to see, the Government has come into peoples homes in a massive way, bought their way into popularity and don't give a damn whether the Country ends up like France or not, the majority of media just sucks it up so they can get invites to the W.H parties etc. no balls at all, why does this crap seem so popular around the western world?? I know, the educators teach it.
I guess when you live in a socialized country you understand better than us poor working schmucks in a "capitalist" one. There is a sign in the lawn and stickers on the cars. Although the lower class limes the "o" stickers probably because they can't read.
Romney may not be the best way out but I think he has a chance. He is electable. He is proud to be an American and wants to do something good. Why else would he want a job that pays so little compared to his last ones.
The only "real" socialist" things up here is medicine/health care, and if you don't have State or private Ins..you pay....the fees are not as high as US fees but still substantial Dr visit 150.00, heart transplant 135K plus the costs of the "other side". We may be a tad less aggressive but our entrepreneurship is every bit as capitalist, if not more so, than many other Countries. We do however give way too much sympathy to those who should be more responsible for their own well being and listen way too much to the so called "higher educated".
I hope Romney wins and wipes out the Dem. Senate, those guys just love sucking at the public tit.
Wow looking around at things and found a political site. I get to hear it all day on TV and now get to read, great stuff guys.
I'll just sign off and let you two make each other feel better.
Gotta be a Ca. dem.
I was going to say I lit the fuse on this one, but actually I didn't. That fuse was already lit and burns all the time. And, no, I'm not voting for Romney. Frankly, I thought no one from the GOP was worth much of anything. If they had been able to persuade Daniels or a few others to run, they might have had more of a chance. There are GOP candidates I might have seriously considered, but none of the clowns and wackos that competed. As it is, things don't seem to be looking too good for Mittens.
Next post should say something about "anyone but Obama". Post after that will point out that he wasn't born in USA. Post after that states he's a Muslim and a member of al-Qaeda. I've seen all this before.
Let's re visit the issue after Sundays airing of the 2016 movie, see what comes out of that. The one thing I find interesting about all liberals, they seem to avoid introspection after an election loss, the same idealology carries on and usually gets more dogmatic, I think if they read Milt Freedman they would hopefully broaden their perspective, no insults intended.
I saw 2016 a few weeks ago and found it to be disturbingly informative. I can understand why some voted for Obama the first time around (white guilt, change, etc.) but it's hard to see how anyone who isn't on government assistance (or plans to be) could vote for him again.
I'm sure we all can remember the preacher in the pulpit, roaring out with great conviction "You are all sinners", interesting that after the collection plate was collected, he seemed in a better mood towards the sinners...ah,, the guilt they laid on us, and still try too every day. seems odd though, to place guilt on those who become financially successful, help others and bestow millions on schools and hospitals etc, but no, is never enough for them...
I saw 2016 a week ago and already knew almost everything in the movie. I thought it would have gone into more detail. No talk of the czars and how obama is using them to use regulation to by pass the congress and the legislative branch . Something only a dictator does.
No talk of the almost 12,000 new regulations that we are saddled with. The war on family farms, Farmers being jailed for selling their food to neighbors, The EPA claiming that all runoff water belongs to the Govt, even rainwater coming off of your roof or a ditch in your yard.
How about the Taliban lawyer being promoted to the #3 spot in the DOJ?
The list is endless. All the info is out there for anyone who wants to look for it.
Yes the info is out there but the average voter is more interested in watching stars dancing, people singing and housewives from hell than paying attention to how the country and economy is managed. They will chooses president based on how he can sing, how cool he is plus a few sound bites and "news" carefully selected by overpaid talking heads
We are doomed
Nice to see a thread go political, it's been a long time and glad I just stumbled on this one. I always found them informative. I don't troll political sites and quite honestly I relate better to this group. I'm open to hearing both sides even if a boating site not 'appropriate' venue for it.
I would think that a lot of what happens in politics directly affects us boat owners.
I'm not going to get caught up in Obama's past and I'm not a conspiracy theorist. I'm simply measuring Obama on his current term in office and so far, he and his party are systematically creating a dependent economy. The thousands of regulations implemented by his administration are designed to implement control and free enterprise is suffering. He is not a leader and our position in the world along with weakening the military places us in great jeopardy.
This is the first time in my 65 years that I have been apprehensive about the future, especially for my kids and grandkids. My son is headed to Afghanistan in Feb, 2013 to serve as an Afghan trainer/advisor. Obama's middle east policies have been destructive and the current "rules of engagement" have caused many military deaths.
We need leadership and commitment to the military and free enterprise. Enough said.
Hmmm.......so far these posts have not followed the theme that Jim predicted.......
What really irritates me is the class envy that is promoted by this current administration. I look up to those who are more successful than I am. I don't want to tear them down. I aspire to someday get there myself.
In fact, that made me think of how this thread relates to this site. Here is the question: Of those who have purchased a new Hatteras in the last year, how many are voting for Obama and how many are voting for Romney?
I ask, because I would like to be in a position to buy a new Hatteras as well. Maybe those that are more successful than I know something about how they got there and who will make conditions more favorable for them and for me.
Just a thought..............
I hear were you are coming from Sky. As I am pretty much out of techy questions, I wanted to post a thread the other day asking members what they have found to be best return on $ investment in past 4 years. Didn't have a side agenda, just figured a group of yacht owners a good group to ask as I'm trying to get out of the box. At the same time, this group has worst possible $ investment, old yachts! Guess you call us well rounded?
I don't see a cruisers forum here anywhere? Anyway we would like to buddy boat with one or two boaters that are headed to BVI or USVI soon. I think within 3-4 weeks. My vessel 72' Hatteras and ready to go. We are in Ft Pierce, FL. Want to make a nice trip see the Islands in between. I've been trying to sell the vessel but will not give it away so might as well use it. Let me know, thanks.

Hey Friend...you have 11 post. You havent been around long enough to make a judgement. This post is one of the few post that turned political. We cruise often here. People here go to the Bahamas all the time. I just met someone in June at cape Look out, and I'm heading South in two weeks. I dont know how far we will go. This is a great site. We do tend to get off the original posters subject though. No harm intended. Dont get your feathers ruffled.
You guys have sorely disappointed me. I'm still waiting for my post predictions to come true.
Well, it was a crummy day in the ER, too...... should have stayed in bed this am.
To be perfectly candid, I am a little disappointed in you Jim. I have a great deal of respect for you both as a Hatteras owner and as a moderator. I would expect better of you. Doug has made it clear that he would like us not to get into politics in his forum. I can certainly understand his position since the forum could be considered a representation of his business. Even if I didn't understand, it wouldn't matter. It is his forum to do as he wishes.
Agree with you tom.
It may be "harmless fun" for now, but I'll take a punt that the silent majority reading this are dissapointed as well but are staying out of this "fun" because they don't need the attacks.
There is enough politics wherever we look. I am here as a boater and because it is a dedicated Hatteras site, or supposed to be.
Connecting the value of our boats to who is in power is ridiculous. In a democracy, the population get the government they deserve becuse the majority WANTED it.
How about getting back to the pleasure of owning a Hatteras?
Politics is directly linked to our ability to continue to own and use our boats. Unfortunately, many of us may lose this pleasure as our economy tanks and our administration continues to print money.
If you think this is just another election, you will certainly change your mind in another 4 years should there not be a change in Washington.
Do you like $4 Diesel? Good, because it will be $6 or $8 or more by then.
Mark my words. I am so glad that anything we post online remains there forever because I will quote this post in 4 more years and you will not be laughing. This country will not look the same if we continue down this path.
Talk about taking a thread off topic. Sorry Phil, I hope you have better luck selling your boat. She looks like a nice one.
I think you're right but I don't think a change in the executive branch of our government will be enough to fix this mess. We'll be dealing with this for a long time. As for the price of fuel, I was paying more when Bush was in office. That being said, I don't think the president of the US has nearly as much control over fuel prices as so many think. China and India have become major consumers or oil.
In many ways I agree and like many others, politics has gone way over the top and have become invasive. However, as a point of clarification, America is a Constitutional Republic. In a Republic, one may act on his own or through his representatives when he chooses to solve a problem. The people have no obligation to the government; instead, the government is a servant of the people, and obliged to its owner, We the People. We do not have majority rule. Article IV, Section 4 of the US Constitution remains inviolate even though many attempts to change it are ongoing.
I agree 100%. I'm just not sure we can fix this without things getting even worse. We're being buried by debt that's compounded by a weak dollar. Only gain we see in the US dollar is the result of other currencies failing faster.
We should move this discussion out of this thread.
Me. I'm buying stock in Solindra.
I don't think the posts last "forever" mine seems to stop after Obama was elected, I remember posting Canada's experience with our famous Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau who believed in the "just society" and damn near bankrupted the Country trying to create, we still have the hangover. Now his son is considering running for a leadership position with the Liberals.
Got Some inside information there dr jim?
I don't see any countries with huge socialized programs, massive government and a strong military making life easier for the working and earning classes. Europe is close to toast. In todays world economic times we need to drill for fuel, expand manufacturing in spite of the epa and make being an American something ti be proud of.
Remember that islam is calling for the destruction of our boats ountey and out way of life.
Remember entitlement is killing our workforce and causing our children to think its easier to take than to work.
Society is falling as the poor demand more and better without working for it and the liberal agenda is to give it to them for a vote.
Hi Phil, Nice thread. How did you manage to make a "I'd like to sell my 53 Classic" discussion into a political rant? Oh, yeah - I guess you didn't.
I think the biggest issue you face in selling "Jace" is perhaps your geography. If she was located on the coast somewhere or on the Chesapeake, you'd have a much better shot. The problem with not selling a boat that you're not using (beyond monthly loan payments, dockage, insurance, upkeep), is that the overall cost of ownership tends to pyramid when you factor in the possibility of a further decline in value during a prolonged marketing effort. It's what I refer to as "holding out for less".
You may want to consider moving her South soon instead of winterizing. There is no way to accurately predict what her market value will be in the upstate New York Spring thaw. Getting her closer to the marketplace IMO is paramount. Knowing how nice your boats is: An asking price of $189,000. would not be unreasonable.
We now return your attention to the previous topic of this thread.
Sky you hit it right on target. Many industries are being taxed to death on new capital purchases so they just don't buy anything new. Kind of helps the chinks and dot heads .
I would not invest in new gear until I see the tax man put down. The epa muzzled and the entitlement budget cut.
