Rope shredding around concrete pillar, help me obi wan
I have a line midship going around a square concrete piling to keep the boat off the dock so my gangway fits. Dock is floating, found out today that the 3/4" line is getting snagged on the square pillar and bearing all of the weight of an 80K pound boat as the tide lowers. Is there some type of protector that will roll up and down on the piling as the tide changes?
Thanks,

Can you fit hose around it?

This.

Rolling balls first come to mind, Chain next.
Finally another, more accommodating slip.

Concrete will rip through about anything... except chain.

That's for the dock. Has to held pretty flat

The chain scares me. Yesterday, we could feel the boat drop and a loud pop when the line failed (it was bound to the piling and had the weight of the boat on it. I am afraid that if chain bound, I would find an 80,000 point boat dangling by chain until the cleats ripped out. I bought some 1" pex-a semi flexible pipe, cut some 6" sections, then lined a few feet of the line to see if I could get a roller effect. Ties knots to keep the rollers in-place on the line. Will let you know if this works.

Then use two and weld up some arms to space one about 16" above the lower one. Add a cleat one of the upright braces and you're all set. But you know me. I'd fabricate something that would work. :)

What about using a couple large round fenders suspended from your railing to keep the boat off the floating dock?
That's what I go with my 58LRC that weighs in around 50 tons... the fenders in the pic below are 36".
