Re: Newbie looking for 52-58 MY
I lived onboard a 43 DC for 8 years. Cruised a lot. If I did it all over again I would get a SF. We used the cockpit area most of the time. Rarely used the v berth. Getting on and off a SF would have been so much easier. Parking would have been too. I guess I'm saying don't rule out SF boats.
Re: Newbie looking for 52-58 MY
The 53c is easily the easiest handling vessel I have ever operated. Terrific power to weight ratio, nimble, soft ride, and very predictable and responsive in any condition. Bow thruster is a very nice plus, although my use has become more of a nice nuance addiction as opposed to a required feature necessary, say, on a MY.

I love the ride of my 41 and the efficiency of its design. Cons are it's a wet boat in weather. The layout of the staterooms and head is old school and not comfortable by today's standards and for wives it's just not pretty enough.
If I had to do it all over I would change.
The v berth
The head
The galley
The stateroom
The closets and storage
The engines
The electical panel
The windows
So if you get my point restoration of the old girl to original still leaves a lot to be desired. I'd not put a fully restored 40 year old boat up against a new one . As a solid ride it's great but it's not a new boat.
The v berth- Redid the room left the V berth it works well for us.
The head - Done
The galley- Next year
The stateroom - Done
The closets and storage- Done
The engines- Done
The electical panel - Done
The windows Half way done-
