Re: Very odd but interesting Hatteras, does anyone have any inside info on this?
The boat was docked across from our boat in Stuart. Never saw it move. The owners health issues might be related to the legal troubles reported on the news last year. Can’t remember exactly what they were but it involved sex, either underage or child porn. I think it started with a search warrant served on the boat.

The owner carried the black theme in to the interior, even appliances. Going to be very expensive
to replace all that and make it into something normal. Not worth the time / investment

Found an article about a Scott McCaffrey that was arrested for child rape charges, hiding on his boat in Stuart Florida. I would guess there is a good chance it's the same boat.
Hard pass on that bad Karma!

if correct, maybe it was seized. may end up in auction. maybe film a retro 80s miami-vice themed show on it.
find an unmolested example, and buy that one.

A little Googling turned up this...

The owner deserves to be UNDER the Prison. He messed with very young girls and as a father I hope he meets a truly ugly fate in Prison.
Whoever buys that boat may indirectly benefit the guy so there is that to think about.

If someone is interested in a boat this size its worth a look. I'll bet $250,000 is a soft ask.
People make dumb decisions about how to list boats, houses, etc. They scare a good portion of the market with unfriendly language like is in this listing. My next boat will be less than 20 feet and fast. So no interest here.

The way to buy this boat is to offer low ball cash to his defense attorney. That guy will be trying to get this pedophile as liquid as possible so he can suck him dry defending the civil suits which will hopefully end up with everything.
Still a moral hazard and with elements of ugly boat issue that need resolution.

Owners criminal history and questionable tastes aside, I wouldn’t offer more than $50k on this thing... no survey, no sea trial, no walk thru before signing a contract???
You have to assume the worst incl full mechanical rebuild. There are also some water damage in the master near the floor
Calling this interesting is very generous. I don’t like dark hulls but some folks do. Painting the whole window area black isn’t that bad, although dated. The black paint along the FB edge is over the top though.
Black chairs and black dock box in the sun... better wear on nomex fire suit.

I threw the $50k offer and the broker said let him know when I'm ready to buy a boat. Guess that wasn't enough. Knowing more now I wouldn't even do that. Just spotted the water damage you mentioned. That's not good either. One to steer clear of.
