We bought our First Hatteras
Not sure if this is the correct place to post... We just got home with our new addition last week. The ole girl "53' MY"... Had a great trip down from Maryland to North Carolina.... Look forward to anyone wanting to share do and don'ts. By the way I was impressed with the fuel burn... 9 knots..... 1.5 mile/gal. Also my first time on the bay....

Wonderful news, Mike!
We're newbies too - just got on board our 53my middle of last Summer.
So the honeymoon begins! I predict this will be an amazing experience for you and yours.
Re: We bought our First Hatteras
Congrats!!!
The 53MY is one of the most liveable of all the Hatts. good, fun boat with lots of room for the whole family.
enjoy!

Re: We bought our First Hatteras
congratulations... you bought the best boat in that size range.
1.5 miles per gallon is excellent... NM or SM? sounds too good to be NM
Re: We bought our First Hatteras
Just make sure that the old gal is operating at the 180-185 degrees engine temp at that low RPM. Those Detroit's need to operate in that range to allow efficient combustion and not carbonate the valves.
I may not be exactly right on in the temp range but I'd bet I'm close.
Re: We bought our First Hatteras
Where in NC are you keeping her? I used to have Detroits and have some excellent contacts.

I think anything over 160 would be okay, especially if you run them up to 1800-2000rpm for a while each day.

Has anybody proven this statement. I see it thrown around quite a bit on the forums, but is there any hard evidence that "running it up each day, keep it above XXX temp" is all that is needed? LOL devil's advocate.
