How do you put on your prop nuts?
I voted small nut first, but really I use the big nut to drive the prop on, then remove it and install the small nut, followed by the big nut.
I'm not getting the point to a pole it's not a matter of opinion it's a fact that there is only one correct way small nut first. And it's very easy to understand why. Karl explained it very well the last nut that goes on un loads the first one so with small nut first your loading the larger nut. Since it has more threads this is the preffered method. Either way will work so why would anyone care what anyone else is doing?

I couldn't agree more, Brian. I just figured that since Hatt owners are some of the brightest individuals of our population, I would see how many get the quiz wrong. :) Plus, in an ananomous poll those that are too embarassed to post the error of their ways can still feel free to respond, Right Bill?
Actually, when I look around in the building where I store my boat in the winter, I'd say about 75% put the big nut first.
I honestly think it probably doesn't matter...if the nut is much softer than the shaft.
For the "theory" to be correct, the assumption (nuts as strong as bolt) have to be met.
I just got hauled to change props the yard guy put the big nut on first and I didn't even bother to say anything that's how important it is to me. I used to always go big nut first cause it just made more sense to me. Then about 10 years ago a sales rep from Michiagan props explained it to me. So now I go small nut first cause that makes more sense to me.
I think the reason that bronze nuts are used is to avoid the galling that often happens with stainless on stainless.

While on the 34' up in MD. we had the new set of props put on. I asked the guy putting on the props of what he thought about putting on the small nut on first. he looked at me like if I was nuts or something...
PassageMaker mag thinks the small nut should go on first. I agree.
"Men, all this stuff you've heard about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war, is a lot of horse dung. Americans traditionally love to fight. All REAL Americans love the sting of battle."
"When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooter, the fastest runner, the big league ball players, the toughest boxer. Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in Hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war. Because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans."

Didn't know this thing "Google Books" existed. Gawd there's so much you can learn now days. And much of it comes free.
1977: "So many women, so little time".
2007: "So much to learn, so little time".
And yea, American's generally love a good fight. Charles Krauthhammer just predicted this evening that by next spring we might be in the process of kicking some (long overdue - my words) Iranian ass.
