Check your policy before the storm...
I was laying in bed last night before 4AM - couldn't sleep with a lot of concerns about the markets. My phone pings and I see an email from Geico saying my boat policy has changed. So, I click the link and see the only change is to my Hull #. They changed an "S" to a 5 - so it was changed to be incorrect. And at 3:54AM?
After 3 phone calls today, I finally have a corrected policy with proof of such. The agents could not give me an explanation of what happened or why. What do you suppose THAT was all about?? Considering that storm #9 is supposed to be a Cat 3 right at my house early Wed morning, I can't help but think something dubious is afoot.
I have finished the mechanical renovation of my boat and have a new survey. So, this overpriced and inadequate insurance is to be replaced just next week with better, cheaper insurance with higher coverage. So, I hope the ol' girl comes through alright. The timing of this storm is typically terrible for me.

For whatever it's worth, you'd have been fine notwithstanding the error in the hull number. Florida's actually somewhat decent about holding insurers' feet to the fire, no doubt because of how many hurricanes we have. Legally the policy will be interpreted against the drafter, meaning a scrivener's error is harmless. That said, in this state, more insurance is always better. Good luck getting it lately, everybody is pulling out.

Thanks. It seemed like something so random and meaningless. Maybe they were hacked in the middle of the night or something....and all Ss were changed to 5s!
No explanation from 3 agents and a lot of what seemed like squirming was what really got me wondering what was going on. Just weird.
Anyway, since the survey was finished I have accepted a quote from a company suggested on this site...brought by a Jax FL agent suggested on this site. But I haven't signed or paid yet. So, I hope it works-out after the storm.

Thanks! As a guy who manages stock portfolios and has a hurricane coming, luck has been in short supply lately. And 2 big trees in my front yard were killed by lightning last week!
Not my best month.....

Yeah you are definitely going to have to wait to get a new policy. As soon as there’s a storm all of them freeze underwriting new policies until it’s over. You can’t anybody to write you until it passes.
