Seems some type of petro product finding it's way out the exhaust Either oil or fuel. How to troubleshoot?
2 stroke, 4 stroke? How does it run at idle and at speed?
4 stroke. Starts quickly, runs well at idle, and all the way through to WOT. When shut down, as the remaining water drips from the exhaust, it creates a slick about 20 feet in diameter.
I can’t how gas would leak in exhaust after shut down. I wonder if some gearcase oil could find its way in the cooling water? Have you checked engine oil level?

It is most likely that the prop shaft seals are leaking. The seals are behind the propeller in the bearing cage. On a Mercury, you need a special tool to get to the bearing cage off to replace the seals. Not sure if it is the same on a Yamaha but likely so. It can be a bugger to get the bearing carrier apart. The right tools and some heat helps!
