Re: Oil Consumption 3208TA's
How much fuel did you burn.
Old timers used to tell me a qt to 50 gal of fuel was borderline. If you burned 100 gal per engine that's 2 qts.
I know math is not taught in Tennessee .
Other than that how was the trip?
Re: Oil Consumption 3208TA's
Definitely burning 100 gallons (total) per day, and the trip has been trouble free. Seems like a lot of oil to me.
Re: Oil Consumption 3208TA's
Both burn about the same amount?
Re: Oil Consumption 3208TA's
Sounds like a lot especially if you were running mostly hull speed the whole way
Re: Oil Consumption 3208TA's
But 12 hours on plane may be closer to ok.
Re: Oil Consumption 3208TA's
Seems like a lot of oil. My 12V92s go through less than a gallon every 100 hours.
Re: Oil Consumption 3208TA's
Are you filling it to the full mark try filling to the in-between Hi and Lo mark and see if they still use it. Many times on boats the stick Hi mark is a little to high and the cranks whip the oil up making it burn off.
It all about running angle of the motor!
Re: Oil Consumption 3208TA's
Yea, what Dan said, you gotta have an angle!!
Re: Oil Consumption 3208TA's
Have been running mostly at hull speed, but it doesn't seem to matter. One day we ran on plane all day from Cabbage Key to Clearwater, no difference. Oddly enough there were two days where it wasn't down to the add mark.
No happy place with this one as far as filling it to less than full. My one winged 58 with a 1271N used a gallon for the entire run. That 52 Jefferson I took 1,400 miles north to Michigan had the same engines, and they used very little oil. Rotella leprechauns in the night?
