  1. Minnesota to South Florida?

Maybe you loopers can answer this question. Which is a shorter trip? Minneapolis to South Florida. Lakes to the coast? or Mississippi? Approx how many days? Or would shipping a 40-45 footer from up there be cheaper and easier? I could sure use some input on this one.

  2. Beware of Cordmaster LLC!

Just a head up all: I recently ordered a High tide 50A 50' power cord from Cord master LLC. After the order the website went down, the number was out of service and emails were not returned. I finally got an email stating the following: Mr. XXXXXX I am sorry I had no idea these things even...

  3. Back decking

The decking on the back of the boat is in need of replacing. The decking is screwed down. First question is do I fill every hole and if so what do I fill them with? Should I screw the new decking down? And can I use IPE for the decking? Thanks Duncan.

  4. Dataw Island

Some years ago on one of my annual trips between NJ and Fla I had occasion to stop at Dataw Island in SC. We borrowed a car from the dock master and went to a restaurant called The Gullah House. Is anyone familiar with it and is it still there? It was a wonderful experience and I am trying to...

  5. I guess it's official

Just came across the listing on Yachtworld for Mike's boat so I guess it's official. Pictures look good including those discusting engine rooms. Should be a great buy for someone. Good luck. John

  6. 1973 45' Hatteras "Mr. Docks"

Does anyone know about this boat? It's older, located in Ocean City. Seems like a good price, but it's been for sale for a while. It looks like a charter boat, maybe high hours are turning people away?

  7. Bahamas trip in July

Bella Sophia has lived in the Bahamas for a while and we have done a family trip to the exumas every year for the last 12 years. Normally the captain brings the boat there and we fly into Nassau to start the vacation. This year we are leaving from Hillsboro inlet and the family is doing the trip....

  8. New infinity flooring

Just got our new Infinity woven vinyl flooring installed. Great stuff, however they have a pretty screwed up product labeling system. We got a sample of what we w anted at the local boat show and told our installer the color number and product name we wanted and they cut, bound and started to...

  9. First day

We moved the boat 60 miles today. The boat performed as advertised. We hit very dense fog the last 3 hours and I was very grateful for the modern electronics. In port drinking beer I will do it again tomorrow.

  10. First year ownership costs

Since this is my first Hatteras and I am about to finish up my first year of ownership I thought I would share ownership costs during my first year. The boat is 1987 63'Hatteras CPMY that I bought in Seattle and piloted down to San Diego. The boat was in very good shape when I bought her. ...

  12. Two Dipsticks: One of Them is Me

Apparently....after checking the oil before startup, I failed to completely reseat the dipstick on my NL 20kw unit. At the end of a five hour cruise, I noted oil in the bilge. The generator ran about six hours and dropped the oil level from full to the add mark. Naturally there was plenty of action...

  13. Memorial Day

G'day all. I understand that you are coming into your Memorial Day weekend in the US. From an old Aussie ex-serviceman (Navy) I would like to thank all of you both current and former members of the US Armed Forces for your service. For those who did not return and laid down their lives in all...

  15. The cost of security.

As its memorial day i think about those who put themselves in harm's way for us and how it's not appreciated by so many. I also though about airports and the cost taxpayers pay for those flying to be safe. Interesting fact is that the government covers a large part of that cost so we 'll pay for...

  16. Not something you see everyday: topless 50/63

Ran into this topless old gal yesterday... Not sure if that's a 50 or 53 but not something you see everyday. Too is covered with solar panels, no wing doors, big boat style anchor storage. Homeported in St. Louis. Notice the larger front windows. Was that a 50 design? The 53 windows don't extend...

  18. Abacos Marinas

It's that time of year again. I am beginning to plan a Spring vacation with the Admiral and my kids (together with significant others). 19. All most there.

Survey was completed this morning the boat ran perfect. She is slow by todays standards she only made 20 knots. This is fine for what our plans are though. The surveyor said he was impressed with her overall condition and that it will be one of the shortest to do list he has had on a boat this old....

  20. Salvage Questions

What's the best way to go about parting out a boat? Again, asking for a friend. Lots of very good stuff on the boat, but then there's the question of what to do with the hull after everything is gone. Boat is in a marina south of Morehead City, NC. Anybody have any ideas?
