  1. Selling boat

As many of you know we are retiring from boating. We contacted the guy be bought the boat from 7 yrs ago and he is interested. However he now lives in Michigan, one of the reasons he sold her. He is pricing having it shipped from Merritt Island Fl to Michigan. Wonder what it will cost to...

  2. Carpet or Synthetic Teak and Holly

I have a 1978 Hatteras 46C and looking at replacing the carpet in the salon with new carpet or something like Lonseal synthic Teak and Holly. Current carpet is stained and does not hold up to the kids and grand kids, however with all of hatches and the noise increase I thought synthetic teak would...

  3. gas going up fast!

Even before Ike strikes gas prices in eastern N.C. are going crazy. Went up 30 cents per gallon in 4 hrs and now can't get more than 10 gallons at a time! Glad I filled up my 5 gallon jugs last week for the tropical storm. Never lost power so the home genny never used any.

  4. Ice Breaking in Antartica

I consider this a serious matter and not a fallacious, "aren't we cute" media joke. I am referring to the Antarctic exploration by ship, which has become firmly stuck in the ice, plus I believe a Chinese Cutter is hung up as well. I do not appreciate that the vast majority of media is providing...

  5. Cruising Budget

For fun while Im bored to tears here at the families I have hatched a plan to work off a Hateras, tell my boss to shove it and set out to cruise the world and not have a homeport. With all this in mind how much would you consider a practical cruising budet for cruising? South America, Cuba, New...

  6. Navionics Got Me Again!!!

Yep, they suckered me once again into spending $4.99 on another upgrade that DOES NOT WORK!!! Got an email about the new and improved (cough, choke, spend) "Dock To Dock Auto-Routing", so I figured I would try it again. My first test was to see what would happen if I picked a starting point of...

  7. How Good Is the Price?

Another in a series of posts about boats that "seem" to be good prices. How good are these prices? Looked at 1st one again: One engine replaced 2003 (stdb), the other majored in 2003; 600 hrs since. It has stabs, deck davit, new NL genset 15kw in 2006. What's its issues? ...

  9. Letter From Wall Street

I thought a new thread would be in order and bingo a friend on Wall Street sent me this letter to the occupation movement. Quoted Letter We are Wall Street. Its our job to make money. Whether it's a commodity, stock bond, or some hypothetical piece of fake paper, it doesn't matter. We would...

  10. Mobile To Sarasota 53MY

This old girl hasn’t been on a trip in over three years, but she’s purring like a... Cummins. Stopped at Destin and will be heading to Apalachicola in the morning. Figure those of you in colder climates may like to see a few pics.

House is on the market considering a 53 hat for next home - BUT I am on a land locked inland lake. Can this boat be trucked or is bridge clearance too high?

  14. Bottom Painting Costs?

I realize there are a lot of variables involved in such a question, but what are you guys paying for bottom painting these days? The marina where I keep my 58 charges $50 per foot which includes hauling, blocking, and splashing. They charge $12 per foot to haul, block, and splash as well as $75...

  15. Who is using IPADS for nav?

I see apple is selling IPAD 1 16g for $299 They say refurb but several peeps tell me they are NOS. I'm thinking more for using it in the airplane because there is a app for $75/yr to get all the charts and aproach plates for the entire US. I was looking to upgrade my Garmin 496 to a 696 that has...

  16. Professional posts on the site

Although there are a bunch of contributors with brokers licenses there seems to be a few un-professionals looking for leads. I have seen many of us post about buying a boat without blasting the fact that "I am a broker" or "let me sell you a boat" as has been the standard of the site for a wile....

  19. Boat deposit sale pending - nice job, Eric!

Three days ago, before any paperwork was actually completed to list our boat for sale with Bayport Yachts, Eric Horst asked us if he could bring a couple on board on Sunday who were interested in a 53MY having looked at quite a few. We hemmed a bit since the boat was still mostly winterized but...

  20. Derelict Japanese ship to be sunk

KODIAK, Alaska (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard plans to use cannon fire to sink a derelict Japanese ship dislodged by last year's massive tsunami. The shrimping vessel, which has no lights or communications systems, was floating about 195 miles south of Sitka in the Gulf of Alaska on Thursday...
