  1. Viking Orders

Just told by a friend Viking now has enough new orders for two months, bigger stuff mostly. He's works for the fiberglass company. They're laying up hulls and they're sold. Hope Hatteras is right behind them. Bill

I have purchased an ICOM MXA-5000 AIS receiver to integrate into my present navigation system. The current system is PC based, using a Thinkpad T42 running Maptech Chart Navigator Pro, Northstar 941D GPS, and a Simrad/Robertson AP20 autopilot. The setup allows for Chart Navigator Pro to steer the...

  6. stupid boaters

This weekend I saw a string of very stupid people, no I was not looking in a mirror. Return trip to marina on another members boat when we passed oncomming boats, all small runabouts all were overloaded and all had kids hanging feet in the water from the bow rail. One took the cake. Guy was a...

  7. Is there a bad Hatteras year(s)?

This may seem like a crazy question for this forum , but I know that both Chris-Craft and Harley-Davidson went through ownership periods where the quality of their products really suffered . Was there a corresponding period for Hatteras ? I am thinking of moving up to a 48'/52' sportfish and the...

  8. Cedar Key, Northwest channel?

Would appreciate informed advice about getting into and out of Cedar. We'll be headed down to Key West from Pensacola departing June 13. Is Cedar Key NW Channel approach good for a 53 Classic? I'm familiar with it's famous tide issues. I've been in a couple of times through Deadmans' Channel, but...

  9. original series 1 45 Hatt ad

I have two original 45 Hatt ads that were probably in one of the boating magazines in the early 70s. I got these undoubtedly on ebay some over-rummed night. I already have one framed at my house and they're pretty cool. I'll drop in an envelope with some cardboard and ship, would like them to get...

  14. My DD's will Start Even If...

Sec of Defense Gates is wrong that N. Korea presents no threat to the US (recent quote). These old DD's are 100% relay logic and no electronics: they start at the press of the literal button, don't you know; no microprocessors need apply. My point is that we are at grave risk from two sources...

  19. Does anybody ENJOY boating?

I know that may sound like an odd question but it's come up for me. I arrived here at the boat 3 weeks ago today. Virtually every day I have been up at 5:30, had two cups of coffee and started "work." I usually knock off around 5PM. Several of the marina liveaboards have asked, "do you ever...
