  2. Sticky Thread Sticky: 2018 Northeast Rendezvous

In an effort to not let the Hatteras Northeast Rendezvous fade away a group of six regular attendees got together and have selected the weekend of July 24, 25 & 26, at Brewers Sterling Harbor, Greenport, NY. For those who aren't familiar with Greenport, located on the south shore of Long...

  1. Caption the Photo Contest

No prize money, no fame or fortune, just a little something to do to help pass the time until the boats are back in the water.

  2. Crime in the Bahamas

I wanted to get opinions from the forum about whether the crime situation in the Bahamas is reaching the point where one shouldn’t go. I have been to the Bahamas about 7 times now. Typically avoid Nassau and Freeport except to drop someone off for a flight or a quick fill up. The State Dept (??)...

  3. Owner aging along with classic Hatteras

Over in the Tech section, Pascal's thread on repowering has a couple of recent posts that got my attention on owner aging. Rather than continuing that discussion off topic in that thread I am starting one on the subject here. My Admiral is fond of saying "life is what happens as you are making...

  5. Lightbulb 1969 Chris Craft Roamer 46 refit

Hi. I'm one of several Chris Craft enthusiasts who frequent the HOF, though mostly as a lurker. I know a few of you Hatterii are also fond of Chris Crafts, so I thought I'd let you know about the blog I'm doing for my latest, longest and biggest old Chris rehab:...

  6. West Marine now matching online pricing

Many of you will disagree, but I have always liked shopping at West Marine. The ability to walk into any store in the nation for parts to get me back on the water quickly, is worth the added expense. I am too impatient to wait for a mail order package. I have a Port Supply account which gives me...

  8. Glass Over Wood vs Cold Mold

Ok, I'm back with more annoying questions, please forgive me! It seems like people love to throw around Carolina Custom to describe a boat, even if it's not. I found a boat I like, it's very clean and called a Carolina Custom (and I think this one is) but they say it's glass over wood, but done...

  9. Miami Boat Show

I spent an interesting Thursday and Friday at the Miami Boat Show and the Miami Yacht Show Friday. If any of you are planning to visit Sunday or Monday, dress most comfortably. Temps have been in the mid 80s, and some of you will consider it downright HOT! Particularly uncomfortable along the...

  10. Foam coming out of fresh water vents

I always add about 3/4 cup of household bleach when we fill fresh water tanks. 300 gallons is the water capacity. Sometimes white foam bubbles out of the vents as the approach full. Anything to be concerned with? We do drink the stuff daily after 2 levels of charcoal filters.

  11. NY Registration Stickers

Coming from a New York lawyer, this may be a silly question but here goes. I have just registered my new boat in NY, paid the almost 20K in sales tax, and received my registration and two bright blue stickers. The boat is also going to be documented. With my pretty fighting yellow lady hull,...

  12. Safety Certifications & Registrations - Required by law or just good to have?

Bought my 63' few months ago and I'm getting mixed messages from the "experts" on the dock. Is everything listed below essential and in need recertification, registration or licensing? 6 person life raft - cert expired in 2016 EPIRB - Battery expiration date was 2017 - but can't find a source...

  15. 52 Cockpit Motor Yacht

We've been searching, looking at photos, looking at floor plan layouts. We're getting closer. Seems like we're moving toward the 52 Cockpit Motor Yacht. The cockpit satisfies our big requirement of being able to step from the dinghy or floating dock onto the swim platform, into a cockpit and...

  19. 1964 Hatt Yacht-Fish 41 - Joining the club

I've been a fan of vintage boats & cars for a long time. I've restored a '67 VW Bus and a '67 Larson runabout. After restoring the 18' Larson about 4 years ago, my wife, kids and I have taken the boat all over southern California and explored various coves, harbors, surf spots and the occasional...
