  1. Moved to home port

Made the first long voyage on the Southern Drawl on Monday & Tuesday. Went from the Tchefuncte River on the North Shore of Lake Ponchatrain (where I bought her) to Port Fourchon, our home port. Since my radar still isn't working along with the river being high making the locks a challenge we...

  2. 1st Bluewater Trip in the Books!!

My god what an absolute TANK this boat is!!! With our weather window closing quickly and rough seas predicted we pulled away from the dock early friday morning. Made a little bait in the inlet then turned south for a 30 mile ride to a water break near the nipple. Seas were 2-4' and...

  3. Transom shots?

I would like to start a new thread by requesting photos of various members transoms. I will be renaming my boat sometime soon, and have been very impressed with the member's clever names, interesting font treatments, and occasionally logos or figures. Time to show 'em off! Also, it might be a...

  5. Route advice: Galveston to Tampa

Hoping to buy a boat now located in Galveston area, and need route advice from there to Tampa area. I'd appreciate any input regarding preferred distances offshore, recommendations for overnight stop locations, either in marinas or anchorages, and any other general advice for this trip.

  7. I miss the old Sams/Deep River stuff

Have you looked at the gear Hatteras is selling? The T-shirts look like the generic stuff you could find in the mall. The Sams stuff with Hatteras logos was so much better. No good duffel bags or mats or burgees or glass wear. Hatteras made a BIG mistake not leaving this with Deep River.

  8. West Marine Owned by International Paper

I'm having some paint work done on the boat, and my painter wanted to get the paint and related stuff from West; he likes their points or whatever it is they give out. No problem for me, just told him to use their price match and bring me the receipts. Going over the books, I see the results: ...

Delivering a problem child with 7.4 carb gassers that has decided it wants to spend another day at Bobby's Fish Camp. Starboard was missing at low speed day before yesterday but ran like a champ on plane at 3,000. Had to wait out that big storm yesterday before heading out to Dog River. She...

We hauled out on Friday. It seems like yesterday I was bringing the new boat home. It was not really love at first I lost some sleep asking myself what did you just do. 13. Get ready for it...Insurance Renewal

Received my new declaration page to renew the boat insurance. Was ready for the 20+% increase for having a vessel in Florida given the last couple of years of insurance losses. Keep in mind, I have had this boat for 10 years with NO claims. What I was NOT EXPECTING was their new tropical storm...

  14. Refit Center Possiblities

I have been investigating a refit within the local Daytona area given the general bullets below. Given the scope, Iím not confident everything can be accomplished with one yard to the quality standard we are seeking. What are others experience in embarking on a refit of this type of scope. Seeking...

  15. Boat Yards, Scavenger Hunts, and 8D Battery Replacement

I grew up near the water and by numerous boat yards. Growing up provided allot of fun slumming around and eventually working in them. Sometimes we would 'borrow' pieces of loose dock styrofoam, throw a pallet on top, and hold it together with sticks while paddling out with 2x6's. Other times was...

  16. Monthly utility bill

OK gentleman, I need some assistance with an issue. Since July 2018 our utility bills have climbed to an astronomical amount despite no real change in our amount of time on the boat. When we leave we turn the heat/air down to merely lower the humidity amount throughout, not to maintain a...

  17. 53 ED Refit

Starting on the refit- new carpet and replaced the Scotsman icemaker with a beverage cooler (fridge has separate icemaker). Lots to do, trying to remember that these things are marathons, not sprints. Took her for a ride on Sunday, brought her up to 17-18kt and she ran nice and cool. Trim...

  18. Woody Wax

So what's the prevailing long term view of those that have used their products? Sounded like a bit of snake oil, but I ordered a bottle. I was more than pleased with it on my non-skid. I wasn't too sure I'd be able to keep from sliding off my side decks on application, but the traction came back...

  20. 55' Hatt sunk 53 miles off of Port St. Joe

Is this anyone from here? I'm told ‎this is a 55' Hatteras sportfish that sunk 53 miles from Port St Joe. The Sea Tow diver is refloating boat so it can be towed back to shore.
