Talking to a guy today that has ran numerous boats suggested I install Murphy gauges such as these on my Detroits to warn me if the coolant level drops. 4. Flybridge roof repairs

The flybridge roof on my 55C was leaking in places when I bought her. Found it to be made of fiberglass panels laid athwartship the bridge on aluminum framing. The seams had no sealant and judging from the pieces or 3/8 or 1/2" fragmented pieces of plastic under the radar & KVH antennae it must...

  10. Fuel Additives

Just curious if any of you with old Detroits run additives in their fuel? If so what kind and why? I run it in my older diesel tractors as it is my understanding when they took the sulfur out of the fuel the lubrication of fuel pumps, etc was reduced. Most of the owners around me with old Detroits...

  12. Shrink Wrap and the Damage done.

Will not be in the water this year... complacent on my part. A few years back (7 to be exact) the bow rail was a little loose in spots, no big deal tighten it up and off we went. Then a few years later a few cracks appear where the toe rail meets the fore deck, a little grind and epoxy. ...

  16. Replacing my davit

Had issues with my 1000lb davit during my big annual cruise and have decided to replace it. It is a 1000 lb 120V davit. I have had the davit for 10 years now and have put 3 winch motors on it. The braking system is the first to go. Have replaced the controller at least once. Manual everything...

  18. 170 HP Hatteras 38 Convertible

This boat would seem to be a very economical way to cover long distances slowly and I would think the engines would last just about forever. 7 kts at 1650 rpm with newer John Deere 85 HP naturals getting a little over 3 mpg. What would it be like living with this hull without the option to go...
