  2. Marine Insurance

There's a tear in my beer after talking w/ my insurance agent. He broke the news that Inamar is doubling our premium from $4100 to $8200. Our windstorm deductable also doubles from 5% to 10% of the boats value. And they want a new survey even though one was done w/in 2 years. This all seems a bit...

  3. Depthfinder transducers

I am going to replace the original depthfinders on our 53MY with new units that can show bottom profile and I have a question re transducers. I have seen that there are now transducers that are mounted on the inside of the hull bottom - not thru-hull mounts. Any experience with these? Do...

  4. Head Performance

Galley Maid Head is running very slow and weak, just replaced motor last season with new unit. 12 V unit. Is or can a slightly weak battery cause poor performance on this unit. The slightest bump slows it down to near stop.

  5. buying fuel direct?

Hi board--I'm going to be doing a long cruise (about half of the Great Loop) and obviously trying to save on fuel costs. Does anyone here have experience buying direct from fuel companies (in bulk) and having it delivered to a municipal dock? I've heard it can be done. Thanks.

  7. Voltage question: windlass control box

Sky Cheney was kind enough to send me his old windlass control box. It contains a 65amp breaker, and a solenoid. The solenoid is marked 32V, so I guess I cannot use it on my 12v system. No problem, as I have a pair of 12v units that I can use instead, and I had to add a second solenoid anyway. ...

  9. 58 LRC: 4-71 vs. 6-71

Response to my prior 58 LRC inquiry suggested 4-71's may underpower going into wind and slop. Inquiry on my behalf at the LRC rally suggested larger injectors would bring the 4-71's power up and would provide plenty of power in those conditions. Comments?

  10. Heat Exchanger - more Silicone City adventures

I pulled the port heat exchanger today and what should have been a 30 minute job (to pull) was two hours because of all the #@%$& silicone the previous owner allowed the mechanic to use. I had to work a razor blade around the entire HE flange to break it loose. Attached are two pics. Nice Huh? ...

  12. B.O.A.T. (break out another thousand)

I took the boat out last weekend, only to find that my fish finder AND my #1 radar had failed at the same time. It's just coincidence, but AAARRRGGGHHH! Both are Furuno "commercial grade" units. Now the decision is: Do I spring for a new dual navnet setup or just replace the radar and fish finder,...

  13. Galley electrical problem

We've got an odd electrical problem on our 58 YF and I wanted to see if anyone else out there has experienced something similar. We lost power to the frig and galley a couple of days ago. Initially we suspected just a bad breaker, but now realize that one side of the AC panel is completely dead. ...

  14. Fuel Filter Replacement

I am getting ready to change the fuel filters on my J & T 671N's. There are 2 side by side on each engine and they are the spin on type. The DD manual makes it sound pretty simple; spin the old ones off, fill the new ones 2/3's full with new fuel coat the gaskets and spin them on , tighten 1/2 turn...

  19. Keel walking

There has been alot of talk about this problem in the past and some currently. Some have repowered older boats and at new higher speeds the problem is starting.
