  1. Engine Room Corrosion

Recently I spoke with a boat owner who has a sedan style boat with cockpit engine room entry. The boat owner equipped his engine room with a dehumidifier that he runs non stop when the boat sits at the dock. The boat is stored in FL and is a 2003. He felt that the dehumidifier helped to reduce...

  2. Heat exchangers

Help, help, help... I installed new zincs in my heat exchanger, 671 TIC, the other day and the nut that zinc screws into that is sodered to the bottom of the heat exhanger partly snapped off. I have taken off the heat exchanger and it looks in good shape with no obvious electrolysis problems. I...

  3. Muriatic and Oxalic vs phosphoric for H/E

OK, I screwed up and bought the Muriatic and Oxalic acids instead of the phosphoric. I should learn not to depend on my memory when I'm shopping. That said, can anyone give me the "recipe", i.e mixing ratio, for this approach, now that I have it all and don't feel like exchanging it?

  4. Would changing to smaller injectors save fuel?

See if this makes any sense: my DD 8v71 Naturals have N70 injectors. I believe that N55 injectors are also available for these engines. Now, '55' is 21% less than '70' arithmetically. Would it therefore follow that I might get 21% more (better) mileage if I changed out to the lower rated...

  5. Battery parallel solenoid

The battery parallel solenoid in my 1972 48ft YF has an open coil...so I may need a replacement if I can't get the thing apart and see the coil for rewind or resolder. One side says 6F01 12volt , the other says 1119865... I can check Sam's but would appreciate any other suggestions for a...

  6. Salt water strainer before HE or I?

The current thread on Turbo Replacement got me thinking: I originally removed the intercoolers and had them cleaned because I suspected some blockage..likely zinc pieces from the raw water pump. This forum helped me understand how critical they are as these are the first "TI" engines I've owned...

  9. Fire Supression

After watching the video links from the Sandbar about a boat fire it got me thinking about fire safety. As I am in a major refit and starting with the ER and electrical, I am now thinking about what type of fire extinguishing system I should put in the ER. The larger boats I have run all have the...

  10. Repower/Engine Removal Question

Something I was just thinking about....Last repower I removed and installed the engines in the water. This time the boat is on the hard. Will removing engines while on the hard present any balance issues? I have three stands on either side of the boat which is up on two sets of blocks at the...

  14. Cell boosters and antennas?

I picked a cell antenna this past weekend and wanted feedback on the boosters that go with them. I have heard they will boost anywhere fron 20-50 miles offshore. Who has them and what do you think? Also, did you hook direct to the phone or did you go to a remote telephone?

  15. Winter engine care

During winter storage, what's the thought about turning engines over just a bit (one or two seconds) via starter if hauled, and/or running the engines to operating temp if wet stored a few times. I keep heat on all winter, wet store the boat and don't winterize so it would be easy to do either. ...

Reading up on Shaft Spurs: http://www.spursmarine.com/index.html Has anyone installed, I see for some applications you need a "spacer" on the transmission? I remember cruising and having problems with a line in the water, having to throw down the hook and do some diving... Any thoughts? ...

  17. Tongue oil whiteish spots

I'm going to clean and revarnish the aframosia. A woodworker recommended I clean it up with lacquer thinner. I've tried that and it cleans it and really looks good wet. However there seems to be a few areas that have mildew on them that the thinner doesn't touch. So got any ideas? I tried...

  18. VC-17 Works great

I promised that I would post the results of our VC-17 trial in salt water. Our 36C, "Unity", has been in the water a full year. 6 months of that was in the Great Lakes and the last 6 months have been in salt water. The boat now lives in Miami. We pulled it Friday and were very surprised how nice...

  19. H20 Temp Gauges

First off, I can handle most mechanical repairs. Electrical troubleshooting is something else. Those of you comfortable with electronics are just short of gods in my book. 20. Head issues

Does anyone know where I should look to get my head working again? When the button is pushed the solenoid clicks but that is all. If I put 12 volt power direct to the motor it runs .
