  1. Naval Architect in SE FL?

I’d like to get someone that is well-versed in Classic Hatteras to come on board for a preliminary assessment (I’m willing to pay for the time) to determine feasibility and some basic ideas on the following: - repower with something that will cruise occasionally at 20 knots, but primarily 10...

  2. Dogs on Boats

We brought our pug on the boat for the first time, and he got so anxious (panting and hyperventilating) that we had to take him home. We tried twice, same result. Yet he has stayed at a strange house (kennel) before and no issues. Must be the constant slight movement of the boat? Has anyone else...

  4. SeaKeeper Stabilizer worth it on an older boat?

So literally the ONLY thing I don't really like about our boat (any boat for that matter) is that it can get rocky when drift fishing at night. It just so happens that drift fishing or super slow trolling live baits is one of my favorite types of fishing to do. I can bear the rocking, but my wife...

  6. Rebuilding a Cruisair FX16C condenser

Both of my 2002 Cruisair FX16C (R22) condensers have seized compressors and need to be rebuilt. I already have the replacement compressors and need to decide what else to replace while I am at it. I am EPA certified and have all the equipment but this is my first marine compressor failure. A few...

  7. New AC system

Ordering all the hardware to redo the AC system on my 53. Decided to go with flagship marine, out of Stuart FL. Heard good things about them, and all the major components are made in the US. They use off the shelf electrical parts for relays etc... so no expensive boards and components Going...

  8. Ship it or drive it???

I just purchased a 1968 34C. I'm new to this class of vessel. The boat is located in Michigan City, Indiana. I live in Tennessee. I'm tempted to drive the boat from Lake Michigan to Lake Barkley, Ky where it will be slipped (via the Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, Cumberland rivers). My other option...

  9. Engine Alignment

So we got 4 new cutlass bearings and 1 new shaft (replaced 2 piece) while we were on the hard. Bad part is the yard did not have anyone to do an alignment. I am familiar with the concept. But when I look at my motor mounts they have shims not wedges and obviously no screw pins. So if I attempt...

  10. '63 34 project progress

I am currently working on the head and galley. Attached are some before and partially completed. This site has helped me tremendously. I know my work hardly compares to some of the projects on here but I figured I would share anyways.

  11. Allison Transmission Oil Foaming

My Allison transmissions MH series? in my 1990 52C with 8V92 are foaming. Not foam like you would expect from water in the oil and in fact after a run and the engines are shut down the oil is perfect. The transmissions operate fine - the concern is long term the foaming oil is going to harm the...

  12. Mystery leak???

It seems as soon as I fix a leak, another pops up. I cannot figure out where the heck this is coming from. I have only seen this leak twice. When we were traveling in rough seas on the way up the coast from Cristobal backlash and now right after that killer storm we had here a couple of nights ago....

  13. Changing prop shaft gland packing

I have a port prop shaft packing gland that I never touched for 2 years since I bought the boat (1978 53MY, 2" shafts), and it never leaked a drop except when the boat was splashed after 5 months in winter storage. This spring, I noticed that it wobbles when the shaft turns and it's a little off...

  14. Trim by Wake

I have been boating for a long, long time. When trimming my boats, I have always found that the flattest wake directly behind the boat gave me the most speed. You remember what a nice flat outboard wake looks like. I finally ditched the Bennett Auto Tab Controller on the Ocean (another story for...

  15. Genset Sound Box

I'm wondering if putting a sound shield or box around an Onan 8.0 genset is possible? Would it even make sense to do it? My OCD is driving this question. The 20kw is in a box but the 8.0 isn't.

  17. Westerbeke Generator Problem

During a recent 5 day cruise on my 41DC, I was awakened by the sound of my 7kw Westerbeke gas generator shutting down at about 4am. My first thought was it ran out of gas as that side was showing low on fuel. After refueling later that morning, the generator proved very hard to start. I checked...

  18. Cummins QSB vs. QSC vs. QSM

Many have raved about the new electronic diesels from Cummins with most suggestions for repowers referring to the QSM's. I looked at their website and noticed that there are QSB, QSC and QSM. They all have overlapping power outputs but different displacements. I would normally assume the most...

  19. Bedroom draw smell tainting clothes

A few months ago I cleaned, bleached sprayed and vacuumed all of the drawers and drawer carcasses in the stateroom. My wife still complained her clothes smelt woody after being in the drawers. There is no mould or moisture, just a taint to the freshness of the clothes. Given the open bilge...

  20. Question Holding Tank won't pump out

Replaced bad hose from deck port to holding tank(hell job). Removed vent line, made sure it was clear. Checked tank pick up tube, seems solid. Went to two different pump stations, same result, just picks up a very small amount of liquid. Don't see any leaks in the tank, it's still almost full....
