  1. 56 vs 53 classic?

It seams to me like the 56 is an improvement on the great 53 in just about every way, is there something I'm missing? I'm thinking of changing my search for a Hatt to the 56.

  2. still searchin...

You find the strangest things inside the helm. I did manage to find the AP pump, but still no compass. Also EXORCISED about a hundred feet of old wires going nowhere and a coffee can full of wire trimmins', old connectors, and of course, a pile of zip ties (used and left by the professional that...

  4. VHF antenna envy

After spending the better part of Saturday curled up INSIDE the FB helm, I finally traced most of the antenna cables. The sub has 6 whip antennas. 3 of these are VHF with one being used for the lower helm and one on the FB with a broken cable at the antenna end. This one is a typical 8 foot antenna...

  5. Turnkey 43 DC going to "Broker"

I have decided to put this beautiful Yacht where it will see some traffic. With the volume of boats available it is hard to make it stand out as the gem it is. Thanks to everyone that expressed interest.

  6. Cool Mounting for Laptop Computer

Hi Guys: I have a Dell laptop I want to mount on the "dash" in the pilothouse of our 53ED. I want a clean looking set up that will hold it in place. Nothing big or obtrusive. Anyone have any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks in advance. DC

  7. Seacock Location for Mid-Cabin Head

This might sound crazy, but I can't seem to find the toilet pickup seacock for the mid-cabin head in my 1972 53MY. The strainer is mounted on the starboard aft bulkhead, with the feed hose heading into the guest head just behind the toilet bowl. It then travels under the guest head floor,...

  8. 48 MY Entertainment Center Finished

I finally finished the new entertainment center in Chateau de Mer and thought I'd share the result. The design idea and all sorts of help came from Walt P :) , thanks again Walt. This aft salon wall on the 48 MY series I is virtually a blank wall and looks 'plain'. Top inboard cabinet usually...

  10. Shut Down Solenoid

This last weekend I went to shut down the Genny, 15kw Onan, 1980, and the shut down switch when pushed dropped the RPMs down to idle speed but would not shut down the genny. I had to manually shut down the genny by pushing down the throttle at the injector pump. I started it back up and than hit...

  11. 70C and 16V2000 HELP!

Just found this site and it sounds like there are some very knowledgeable people on here. I have looked through this site and boatdiesel, but I havent been able to find much info on the 16V's. I need some help on pro's and cons of a 2000 70C with 16V2000's. I am new to the larger boat world and...

  12. Bridge Ladder

I'm going to have a custom aluminum ladder made up to replace the existing SS bridge ladder. For now, the welder was going to use oval pieces of pipe for the steps. Does anyone know of any steps made that bolt or attach to the vertical pipe in a ladder? I'd save some $$$ and have a better end...

  13. Dont this beat the band !! YIPPEE !!

I finally succeeded, but cant take all the credit... We now have a supplier for 32 volt voltmeters!! 14. Fuses at Starter Soleniod?

Does anyone know if there are fuses in the wiring from the starter button to the starter soleniod? My starboard starter button on the flybridge does not cause the starter to engage. I've replaced the button but still nothing. Turning "ON" the switch does send power to the alarm panel and the...

  15. Multiple Choice on Rate,Time and Distance

I am going to fish in a tournament in Key West in July. It is a run of about 150 NM from my home port of Miami Beach. When I arrive, we will be putting some heavy running and trolling time on our 45C. The motors are 692's. So the multiple choice question is regarding the run down. I know there are...

  16. Charge it !!

Does anyone run an aux. 12 volt alternator on a V series DD? The 32s are mounted low and I'd like to put a 12V unit on one engine to charge the 12 volt bank for electronics etc. (radios, hailers, head, macerator etc). At this point, I see no alternative other than running a dual voltage system...

  18. New Hatteras owner

I just purchased a 1978, 53' MY. The previous owner was not very helpful with information on how systems were used or where shutoff valves were located. My questions center around that topic. I am hoping that there is another owner of the same vintage of boat that can help out. 1. I can not...

  19. pin-on oil filters

I just had my DD mechanic to the boat today to figure out what was wrong with my governor. It turned out to be a bad gov. spring. In talking, I asked him if he could get me the screw-on oil filter adaptors. He said, don't get them they have a tendency to leak. He said to purchase the complete...

  20. Oil Change Pump Install

The PO painted over mine so I can’t get any data off it as to current draw, model numbers, nothing. And…It’s mounted on a removable deck board (fuel hose access) that can’t be removed now because the pump is there (what was he thinking?). None of the piping is secured, no fuse and the on/off...
