  1. Spring Cleaning the A/C

I noticed last night that the water flow from the Cruisair heat exchanger was diminished significantly. Checked everything up to the Exchanger and flow was normal. I was able to blow out the exchange coil somewhat using lung pressure, but it clogged up again shortly after that. I suspect I need to...

  2. Electrical Gremlins

Our cruise north is just three days underway and gremlins have arrived that must have been hiding during the southbound stint. I'll post them in separate threads. For this one, we have a rebuilt alternator on the stb 6V92TA powering the starting and gen 8-D batteries. There is also a battery...

  3. Rising Water in the GM bowl

One of my GM heads fills with water to an unusually high level - nothing to the point of overflowing or sloshing out, but appears to be consistent with the sea level outside the hull. This happens slowly, but not every time. The air lock tube is clear and water flows through it when flushing and...

  4. Revisiting the window trim/fuzzies topic...

Ok, so I read the whole discussion on the window fuzzies, what they are for, and the tips on dealing with them. I have a different issue...sort of. On our recently purchased 1973 45C, the windows have been made "inoperable" and the previous owner completely filled the interior side of the tracks...

  6. RPM follow-up

While at the boat last evening, I ran both engines. I found that the port would hold 2700 and the stbd 2600 max rpm with no load. Does this sound like something I should be worried about?

  9. I need a transducer education

When my boat was new in 1985, Hatteras installed 2 transducers and 2 speed sensors, one for each helm. Apparently the owner did not want to put any electronics on the bridge, so he just put the Datamarine Offshore units in the pilothouse and that is all. Later, another owner added a sounder on...

  10. air horn

Need some advice here. I have a 80 model 43 DC I think with the original air horns located on the top deck benneth the mast. Two hons that run off a small 12 volt compressor. The horns cease to toot although air is coming through when the button is pushed to activate. I need a replacement and...

  11. Differing Oil Pressures

I have a port engine which always runs oil pressure about 20% less than stb. (32psi vs 40 at 2000 rpm) Below 1500 rpm, the pressures match up. Is this something I can forgetabout or do I need a new oil pump? Oh, the engines are 6-71 ti.

  12. macerator question

Fairly soon, we are about to embark on an installation for my two new atlantes heads. I will be using the 160 gallon aux fuel tank as a holding tank since its very conveniently located adjacent to the forward head. So far everything is new, and since I do plan some offshore cruising when the...

  14. No steering!

Have a 65 41' DC. Spent the spring painting, and was going to put the boat in the water this weekend - until I realized that I have no steering! The wheel turns 2 full turn to the left and right but the rudders don't move an inch. I tried moving the rudders buy hand, and they do so easily...

  15. Air Conditioning replacement

Out of my 4 a/c units, 2 of them are original 1969 units and until now, have always worked fine. recently, I've started having some problems with the AC and am down to only one working unit. I think it may be time to put in some new ones and was wondering 1) where people have found good deals on...

  16. Fuel Gauges

Bought a 1972 43 DC about 6 months ago and just like my 1969 commander it doesn't have any fuel gauges just the good ole stick! Has anyone put in any type of gas gauges into a boat that came w/o? I noticed the the tanks are fiberglass so i don't think there would be any issues when cutting a hole...

  17. Medicine cabinet mirrors

Has anyone replaced the mirrors in their medicine cabinet doors? Looks like the afromosia panel on the back of the door is glued on to the wooden frame that surrounds the mirror. Can it be taken apart without damaging the frame? Thanks. Ted

  18. Unhappy Engine loses power after 45 minutes

74 Cat 3160(3208) orig. loses power after 45 minutes of running. Tried switching tanks same issue so it's not a tank problem, fuel filters clean, again if they were clogged it wouldn't take 45 minutes for rpm's to drop. engine always starts right up, runs out at close to 3K rpm under load just as...

  19. Antenna question

Here goes... The boat has 2 VHF radios, one on the FB and one below. The starboard side FB VHF antenna is gawn with just a wire poking out. There are 2 VHF antennas on the port side with both wires going below. Evidently one is not used. 1. Can I use a multi meter to determine which one is...

  20. What am I looking at? (deck plug)

A recent survey turned up some "delamination" through hammer testing. I cut open one of the spots and found something I've never seen before. It appears to be unsaturated fiberglass over the coring. Poking the coring with a screw driver, it's a little soft, but not mushy, and still white. ...
