  1. 110 davit winch

Well my Golo davit winch is acting up(switch was full of water) so I am thinking it is just as easy to get a new one. I am lifting a 13' Whaler w/25hp motor(1000lbs?). When it comes to winches some have lifting power and some have pulling power. Well....a davit pulls a cable over a roller that...

  2. rebuilding our 12-71s - photos

Well..., Covington Diesel (Wilmington) began rebuilding Miss Mary Alma's 12-71s a couple of weeks ago. The port engine has been broken down and the rebuild/reassembly on it is about 60% complete as of today. The camshaft on the port engine was bad, so it will have to be replaced. Other than...

  3. 12 volt fan with 32volt current

Has anyone ever tried replacing the 32volt blowers in the heads, engine rooms with par 12volt fans ? I suspect it might work ??? And/or is there such a thing as an inexpensive transistor/diode or other magic device to put in line to step down the current at each device ?

  4. Engine room blowers

Just a heads up. I had a noisy ER blower and decided to replace both. Found one was shot. The plastic squirrel cage had disintegrated, motor was still running. The other had noisy bearings and the cage was in the initial stages of self destruct.. If you have old blowers, you probably have a similar...

  8. Original Hatteras flooring

I took two salon floor sections home today and rebuilt them around the perimeter as the originals were weakened and split. They were incredibly well built with nearly 4 inch long screws with the allen head fitting which of course I had a hard time removing. I repaired them with cherry I had in my...

  9. Cat 3160/3208 Fuel system

Can somebody give me a quick lesson on the fuel delivery system on this engine from 74. I trace the line to the primaries, then it appears to go up to the front of the engine then to the secondary. I'm trying to reprime after both fuel filter changes, filling each with DK. The engine ran for 5...

  10. Cost of repacking both shafts

My 36C is having both stuffing boxes repacked this week. As the yard charges 85/hr for mechanical labor how many hours do you think is or should be reasonable for this job. I have already removed all floor hatches so access is immediate to both shafts. I believe the only parts needed will be the...

  12. Chris Commander 45

I am going to look at an early 70's Chris Commander 45' next weekend as I need a bigger boat for a growing family. I have always been fond of the old Flush Decks and have one concern. What was the logic or thought process behind putting gas engines in a 40K lb + boat? I have pasted the response...

  13. Best dry gas/ carb cleaner

My twin engine Chris Craft has been stored for 2 years. I used stabil but this past weekend I got the boat out and one engine would only run at at 1000 rpm. The other only 2000. 14. Classic (looking) Gauge set from Faria

My trim tab gauges, fuel gauges, a tach and a temp is no longer working (they are 40 years old). There is no replacement for the gauges, and even if I find a replacement, some of the gauges will not work with newer senders. So I am thinking about replacing all the gauges, and I found a set that...

  17. New Headhunter Xcaliber

Hi all, Installed a new Headhunter pump on my 43DC. It is mounted on an Amtrol WX-102-PS diaphram tank. I had a GM and i think they are terrific people and great, long lasting products, but a new motor for the GM was almost as much as the whole Xcaliber pump. This pump brings pumping...

  18. New fuel tank size/cost?

I am considering buying a 1964 40' Double cabin. I don't think the fuel tanks have been replaced. Considering the ethanol issue, what can I expect to pay for these tanks? I am capable of doing the work......I think. What is involved with removing the fiberglass ones?

  20. Old fuel Gauge, New Sender - not compatible

I tested the gauge, moving the arm up and down the ohm reader changes. The wire from gauge to sender is good. The negative wire from the tank are connected properly. The current gauge reads full no matter what. Is there a way to modify the old gauge so it works with the new sender?
