  1. impeller size - "Detroit Brand size 14" ??

The impeller on the SB engine is gone. The impeller says Detroit one one size, size 14 on the other. How do I find a replacement piece?

  2. Turbo Chargers TI vs TA

I've been looking at 53 and 54 MY's and see that the 53s were offered with 8v71TI's. The 54s have 6v92TA's. What is the maintenance difference between the TI and TA's?? What about service life? I understand most turbo engines are good for about 2000 hours before rebuilds are needed. Thanks.

  6. lube oil changer instructions

My boat is a 1971 43 dc. It has a lube oil change and storage system. The last oil change I manually pumped the oil out. It took 2 hours per engine. It is time to learn how the factory system works. Does any one know where instructions might be found?

  8. A/C Condenser

My A/C condenser in the front cabin of my 36C will often start to ice up from the bottom towards the top if I run it continuously at 70 or below. Do I have a leak, is it low on freon, or do I not have enough fan speed across the condensing unit to prevent freeze up. It does blow cold about 56...

  9. Air Conditioning Mystery

One of the Cruisair units on my 1985 43' Motor Yacht occasionally has fits. It cycles on and off in 5 second intervals. It might be my imagination, but when it shuts down after the 5 second "on" cycle, it sounds different than a normal shut down. If I shut it off for a couple of hours, it seems to...

  10. I Found It !!

Since I was in the middle of pulling the salon side panels for their 1/3 century planned refinishing, I peered into the dark holes that I find with a flashlight, and lo and behold, I find my flux gate compass for the AP 300 X. After I pull out at least a hundred pounds of soundproofing thats fallen...

  11. 1968 Kold Wave air conditioners.

I had 2 AC guys come in and look at my ACs. They are both out of freeon. They are Kold Wave brand, made in 1968) The lowest bid to fix the leak and recharge is $1200 per unit. When I suggested that I can get new ones for $1400, they said that the new ones will not last as long as the ones I...

  12. AC Tachometers adjustable?

My tachs are reading high. Before I go thru the headache of removing the brackets that hold them in place (along with the wiring that never seems to have sufficient service looping), can anyone tell me if they even are ajustable, and if so, how?

  13. Glendinning Synchronizer Question

I have had these products for years and I love them. However, on my 43 SX, the Glendinning is a bit sluggish. In other words, when using it to come up on plane and/or come down from plane, the slave engines is a little slow to follow which creates some interesting steering issues since the lead...

  14. Galleymaid Head Blows Breaker

I am trying not to hijack the other thread and am of the opinion that if I start a new head, it may be a different problem--at least I hope so. My head started blowing the breaker. I would press the button for about 3 or 4 seconds and the head would pump then blow the breaker. I have not yet...

  16. Question for you Detroit Guys

Moving this to the tech side. I know very little about DD engines but was quite impressed with the 12v71 N that worked in Freebird. I know it is approx 485 hp but how much torque does this thing have? From seeing the innards(redneck term) of the other one i have a better understanding of...

  17. 426 Wedge Engine cooling part - what is it?

have 1964 426 wedges- After the SB engine over heated, I pulled the water pump. the impeller looked good. So I decided to check out the thermostat. 19. Water Powered Thrusters

I was looking at a 53MY today and I mentioned to the broker that I would be thinking about putting in both bow and stern thrusters. He said there is a brand new thruster that works like a jet drive on a seado. He called it a bubble thruster. It attaches to the front of the hull and the only hole...

Does anyone have any experience with Garmin radar? Specifically the model 404 open array. Right now I have a Furuno 1731 Mark-3 that is fairly old.
