  3. spark plugs

Maynard, what plugs do you use. Make and Model. Champion rv8c is what manuel says. i like NGK. x ref on ngk shows YR, however when you put in the engine make and model it comes up with BPR6FS, 6 being a colder plug.

  4. Electronics Question- Furuno FCV 582 Fishfinder

I have a Furuno FCV 582 color fishfinder on my 43 SX. It was on the boat when I bought it and appears to be an original install. I do not know what transducer I have. At cruising speed, the fishfinder looses the bottom. While this is not a huge deal because I have a backup fathometer, I am...

  7. experience with boat transport?

Has anyone here had practical experience in prepping a convertible and re-commissioning after over-land transport. Models would be 50-55C. I know the FB and any 1/2 tower or tower need to come down. Any good or bad experience? Any ball park costs? For a number of reasons, over-seas transport...

  8. another "how-to"

Any thoughts on winterizing my two U-Line ice makers? I dont have a book for either one. There must be a circuitus interuptus to get the valve to hold open, otherwise it takes 30 minutes to cycle. Even if I disconnect the supply, the internals will hold water. Thanks ! ws

  9. underwater prop swap

Has anyone changed their wheels underwater? I was told i may need a prop puller, and i have no idea where to get on of those. I talked to one of the local yards and they're extremely busy, busy to the point where they'd have to block her up in order to change the wheels. This equals about $300...

  11. Do I have a transmission problem ?

G'd evening, So I"ve just had a great 4 weeks cruising the Pacific North West of British Columbia. Well worth the visit for those interested in coming this far from the main Hatteras zones. Anyway, my '79 43c is running 450 hp 6V92ti's with Allison transmissions, with about 2200 hrs on the...

  12. Engine Compression Test Results

The Port engine (with water in the oil) has all compression between 120-130, except one valve, which has a compression of 70. THE SB engine (oil is fine, but I do see very slight oily leakage between block and head) has compression between 140-150, with one valve at 125. I am surprised that...

  14. 12 volts to 6 volts

Is there a way to reduce 12 volts to 6 volts? I have an intrusion alarm system that runs on 4 AA batteries (6 volts) and I'd like to wire it into the house 12 volt system. As it is now, I have to replace the batteries every 4 weeks ... a major PITA ... especially when the alarm begins to go off...

  15. Detroit Help, we are stumped

To start, we have rebuilt both engines, and at first, everything ran fine. we had no problems for the first 25 hours. We went to the keys in July, and everything went fine on the way down, and then the engines ran great for the first 2 1/2 weeks while we were there. One day on the way in from...

  16. canal bridge clearances

Planning to bring a 40' hatteras through the NYS barge canal. Hatteras specs say 15'2" clearance to top of radar arch. 2 bridges (Canandaigua and Lock 30 cable bridge indicate 15'6" clearance. On paper that's only 4 inches and water levels could change that. Has anyone with a 40 made this trip...

Dual unit Cruisair vintage 1968. Last weekend while I was crawling out of the engine room I smelled electrical smoke. 20. Peroxide vs. Chlorox

I’m wondering if Peroxide rather than Chlorox might be a better/safer chemical to use in our water tanks to kill bacteria. I do know that Chlorox contains so much chlorine that it will deform and/or destroy anything made of rubber. I used those Chlorox toilet tank tablets at home and they...
