  1. Horn ID

Attached are some pics of a horn set I removed from my 1977 58YF for replating. The largest is about 36" long. The horns work intermittently but make beautiful noise when they do. Do any of you know the manufacturer of these (presumably) original equipment horns? The fuzzy picture with this...

  3. Mystery Trans ID'd, new problem.

Now, I know they are Twin Disc MG 506's thanks to a lot of help here, but one seems to run at 1.5 - 1, and the other at 2-1. The port trans, what we think is 1.5 to one, is spinning the prop CCW looking from the stern. The starboard side is spinning CW and that follows the arrows which are the...

  4. Speed, or the lack thereof.....

I just installed new electronics on the boat and i took it out today to get an idea of th speed. 45C with 8V71 N's, i believe they're rated between 330 and 350 HP. At 1900-1950 she got 10.k5 kts on the C120. At WOT she got a little over 15 kts. Now i'm not a speed oriented guy, i was happy with...

  5. 43C Condensation vs Leak

No sure if this is a tech forum Q, but anyway... Just spent a 3 day weekend away on our '79 43C, here in the Pacific North West; with heavy wind and heavy rain for 24+ hours and it was quite cold. We ran heat a good deal of the time. On day 2 our guests mentioned that the carpet in the...

  6. Dockside checking on Zinc. Isolated Zinc dropped over Side grounded to Bonding

Ok, I read this in an earlier post and desire comments on it. I know, I made the title long. REBrueckner on 12-17-2006 wrote Another partial solution: Hang a big zinc over the stern of your boat when dockside. This must be connected to the bonding system. I added a permanent stud, wing nut...

  7. Weeping Holding Tanks...

I would appreciate any ideas on a problem with my holding tank on a 1981 56MY... We discovered that the gasket on top of the holding tank where all the 90-degree pipes and vent pipes enter is weeping "fluid". There seem to be troughs that run circumferentially around the outside edge of the tank...

  8. Trolling on One Engine

Not a newbie to Hatteras boats but to trolling. My 43 SX goes too fast when just in gear with both engines to troll for the local trophy fish (striped bass). I do not have trolling valves. So, when I troll on one engine, do I leave the other engine on but not in gear or off completely. I am...

  9. Question Trim tabs on a 32 sportfish

My 32 does not have trim tabs but I believe it needs them. Has anyone had experience with installing them and what size did you use. Thanks.

  10. Low Sulphur Diesel

We have received a letter from the marina advising their change over to dispensing Low Sulphur diesel at the fuel dock. The letter makes some vague references to "perhaps the need" for additives for use in our boats. Does anyone have any experience with this and what the possible ramifications are...

It's been a Long time since I posted and wanted to let everybody know that I'm still here. Been quiet just reading. I'm up to page 130 on the Tech forum. Don't read all of the threads just the ones that interest me or seem interesting from the topic which is most of them. I have 20 links to...

  12. E-Diesel

Here is a good link to a study on E-diesel. http://www.eere.energy.gov/afdc/pdfs/34817.pdf It shows what a dumb idea this is, and the changes to equipment, infrastructure that would have to be made. The biggest hurdle is safety due to the flash point of alcohol being less safe than gasoline.

  14. Head remodeling

Getting ready to re-do both heads on my 43 dc, I was thinking of removing all the original wall paper and then doing the walls in either teak or a cherry wood veneer. The flooring was just re-done with teak and holly flooring so I'm trying to decide on the walls. If I do the walls in wood will it...

  15. Very Stupid Newbie Querstion

About to head down to the river (Ohio - Cincinnati) and it's getting nippy. How does one turn on the heat on the boat (howls of laughter ok)? Is it as simple as adjusting the thermostat? Most of you have a depth of knowlege that is humbling (prop-nuts) and if you all would deign to help a neophyte...

  16. A GalleyMaid water pump Q.

Over the last weekend our GM water pump started cycling frequently to regain pressure. In the end it would cycle every 2 mins or so and on a couple of occasions it pinged the breaker. My ProSine inverter panel showed it drawing 15 - 18 amps while cylcing; which seemed high to me. A bunch of...

  18. Blue Note repower thread

This may be a little premature, but I thought I would start a thread which shows what Zimmerman Marine Inc. is doing on Blue Note's repower. Since we have a number of owners with similar boats, at least one of whom is doing something similar, I thought it might be useful. Please post if you have...

  19. New Bottom Paint, Not So Good Paint

Well, I like to experiment, if it doesn't put the boat in peril. I tried using Ace porch paint, instead of the "ablative" $140+ bottom paint, since I sit right out in a river that flows fairly well. So I just got hauled for the Winter last weekend. While I haven't seen it in person, the yard...

  20. Flo-scan

I am considering installing a pair of Flo-Scans on my 36 Hatteras w/3208T Caterpillar engines. Is anybody out there using the Flo-Scans, with GPS interface, and how do you like them? It seems to me that with the price of fuel that it wouldn't take long to pay for them if you could identify the RPM...
