  2. Interior Teak Refinishing

First post - sorry if this is covered in another thread. Looking to get into a 53MY. It has white formica with teak trim on the cabinets and the below decks walls are either white formica or wallcoverings. Any ideas if this was a "refit" that a previous owner may have done? I'd like to see if...

  4. What makes an excellent diesel rebuild prospect?

As you all know I have a tiny 32' Flybridge from the "ever so close to the ethanol safe year.....but not close enough" of 1985. I am looking at new diesels, old diesels and rebuilt diesels because I do not want to rip up my deck and rip out the tank....and I plan on keeping her because she's big...

  7. Educate Me: What does water in fuel look like?

I decided to go play with my fuel today, starting with the forward tank which is the dirtiest since the DDs run off the aft tank and polishing it when they do, and the forward tank runs the genny which clogs the primaries like there is an endless supply of filters on the earth. I opened up the...

  9. Lightbulb Composite Window Frames

I have been working on this style of window frame for a while. I can now build fixed window frames only using the composite material. With this material, there is never any corrosion and you can paint them any color you want. If they are installed with the type caulking I use, there will not be any...

  10. Another lesson

I pulled the 32 volt siezed galleymade water pump today and pulled it apart. Depending how the rotor meggars, I think its salvageable. Reminds me of a Model T starter! The worm and boot all appear like new, bearings are good and the mica insulators on the commutator are good, etc. What I cant...

  11. Electrical Conduit

Reminder: I have a 1964 41ft DC My question is should I install Plastic Conduit (smurf pipe) to those boxes? My worry is on chafing of the wire inside the conduit. And I definitely think that having a conduit between the Service Entrance and the electrical panel is a good idea. For...

  12. Bio anyone?

So does anyone run with bio diesel? I have a connection for bio deisel and personally I would rather pay 98 cents a gallon and smell like french fries than 4 bucks a gallon and smell like a bus. However I wanted to know if anyone runs bio or knows of any issues that can crop up running it?

  13. 32 volts - New in Spring

It looks like I will have to replace my 32 volt batteries this Spring. That is 4, 8 volt batteries on each side for a a total of 8 batteries. I know it has been discussed before but assuming I do want maintain 32 volts on each side, what are my options short of just replacing what I have. Thanks.

  16. what kind of sprayer?

I've got a hull gouge to touch up, and I'm wishing I asked my painter what kind of little jobby he was using the last time he did a touch-up for me. I want to try it myself. He mixed up standard Sterling 2-part poly and had this very small sprayer that didn't use a compressor. I'm afraid of...

  18. converting automatic choke to electrical

My SB carb would not have the secondaries open up. Took it to the local carb shop, and they saw that the copper tube that sucks hot air through th exhaust manifold was actually sucking exhaust, meaning that the tube inside the exhaust manifold is probably cracked, and unless I fix that (or convert...

  20. DD v MTU?

I notice that all the re-power posts usually include electronic Cummins, Yanmar, maybe Lugger or John Deere, or even Cat's. However, I don't remember a single mention of the 4 cycle electronic variation of DD, now MTU (DDEC), i.e. and e.g. the 60 series. Given the generally accepted reliability...
