  1. E-Diesel

Here is a good link to a study on E-diesel. http://www.eere.energy.gov/afdc/pdfs/34817.pdf It shows what a dumb idea this is, and the changes to equipment, infrastructure that would have to be made. The biggest hurdle is safety due to the flash point of alcohol being less safe than gasoline.

  2. speaking of de-mungooing

Sure cant wait to slap some white Awlgrip in here... on a 3 foot long brush that is! OB side of main is where the galleymade crapper pump was for the center head. Had to put the heat on today too. No reverse cycle here! ws

  3. Head remodeling

Getting ready to re-do both heads on my 43 dc, I was thinking of removing all the original wall paper and then doing the walls in either teak or a cherry wood veneer. The flooring was just re-done with teak and holly flooring so I'm trying to decide on the walls. If I do the walls in wood will it...

  4. Very Stupid Newbie Querstion

About to head down to the river (Ohio - Cincinnati) and it's getting nippy. How does one turn on the heat on the boat (howls of laughter ok)? Is it as simple as adjusting the thermostat? Most of you have a depth of knowlege that is humbling (prop-nuts) and if you all would deign to help a neophyte...

  5. A GalleyMaid water pump Q.

Over the last weekend our GM water pump started cycling frequently to regain pressure. In the end it would cycle every 2 mins or so and on a couple of occasions it pinged the breaker. My ProSine inverter panel showed it drawing 15 - 18 amps while cylcing; which seemed high to me. A bunch of...

  7. Blue Note repower thread

This may be a little premature, but I thought I would start a thread which shows what Zimmerman Marine Inc. is doing on Blue Note's repower. Since we have a number of owners with similar boats, at least one of whom is doing something similar, I thought it might be useful. Please post if you have...

  8. New Bottom Paint, Not So Good Paint

Well, I like to experiment, if it doesn't put the boat in peril. I tried using Ace porch paint, instead of the "ablative" $140+ bottom paint, since I sit right out in a river that flows fairly well. So I just got hauled for the Winter last weekend. While I haven't seen it in person, the yard...

  9. Flo-scan

I am considering installing a pair of Flo-Scans on my 36 Hatteras w/3208T Caterpillar engines. Is anybody out there using the Flo-Scans, with GPS interface, and how do you like them? It seems to me that with the price of fuel that it wouldn't take long to pay for them if you could identify the RPM...

  10. Talking Being "manly"

Pulled out...the yacht that is... Just to cover a bunch of bases; the bottom paint has been wet for 14 months and is the WM cheapo stuff at $49 / gallon. A few barnacles with Zebras growing on top of them. I am pleased to say, that after a 15 mph grounding near Dauphine Island Al. theres...

  11. winterizing advice please

And now the big Kahoona... Last week, the day before haul out, I checked the anti freeze and it was good to about +7F. Being that it was low, I added 3 gallons straight on each and went for a 45 minute ride before the lift to mix it up. I checked it today and its good for -7F. Since I am going...

  12. Awgrip roll and tip techniques

Hi Folks, I'm repainting a '73 HAT 45C. I am wondering if anyone has any Awlgrip roll and tip techniques they especially like and would like to share. I have heard a few things such as tinkering with the amount of reducer depending on the temperature, keeping the brush used for tipping in a rag...

  13. CMAP/Raymarine problem

Recently, my Raymarine RL80 chartplotter has lost the ability to show charts at resolutions less than 1/2 mile. Does anyone here know if the cmap chips can go bad, or am I more likely looking at a system problem?

  15. Single Side Band Question

At the end of last season, I upgraded my SSB and never tested it to make sure it was working. Now, I can't seem to find the frequencies necessary to get a radio check. Went out on Sunday and raised Group NY on VHF channel 16 and asked what frequencies the Coast Guard stations monitor. The fellow on...

  16. coolant over flow jug......why? how?

I do not understand how with all of the pressure in the cooling system, that plastic tube and the plastic jug stay together. Why are they there, other than the tube coming off and water pouring all over me when I am crawling around front of my 892's. Can I take them out? I check coolant level in...

  17. need contacts

Now that the pot's been stirred on prop nuts, and flowscans and batteries, who here has a contact for buying Perko stuff without going to worst marine etc? I just perused the Perko.com catalogue online, and found part numbers BURIED in the text for 32 volt bulbs of all things. Running lights,...

  19. What size batteries

My recently purchased 34 ft cruiser doesn't turn over very quickly at start. The battery boxes in the engine room look big for the 2 batteries on board. It's powered by twin 440's. I know the batteries are old and probably need replacing, but does anyone know what size I should have.

  20. airseps

Question, I have a couple of 8v53n's with airseps and K&N air filters. Is there any type of maint I should be doing to the airseps? I have cleaned the air filters, but I remember somebody on the forum saying something about the "airbox" draining the oil from them? Thanks in advance Lenz
