  3. Cummins VT903M - Engine Flush

Thought I would throw this out there to see what you guys think - I bought a 1976 43 DC with original Cummins VT903M engines in her. The prior owner neglected engine maintenance, except for oil changes, for the past 7 years he owner her. I was going to open up the Heat Exchangers to clean out,...

  4. Anyone used Nylon tube for their steering?

My 1/2" copper has yet another leak and I guess it's time to replace the whole thing. The Lower station was removes so I can remove more than I will be putting back. I was planning on leaving the rub to the bridge since it looks fine and replacing the remainder from the reservoir to the block and...

  6. Atlantes Freedom installation

Well, I finally finished installing my new head. I did the job in conjunction with doing teak and holly througout the boat, a 43C from 1979. In order to get the new toilet to fit into its allotted area in the head, I had to raise the floor about 3", due to the curvature of the hull at that point....

  7. Counter Top Demo

I'm in the process of replacing the counter tops in my 53' Hatteras Galley and bathrooms. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to demo the counter tops. I have found them not to be user friendly to demo like everything else on the Hatteras.

  9. Exhaust elbows for '83 48MY

Yup, I'm messing around in the engine "room." The exhaust RISERS (not elbows, not aftercoolers) need replacing. Thoughts on where to go for new ones? (DD 6v92TAs) (I'm figuring Sams isn't going to have two "in stock" - ya know...) I've got "helpers" who are - some more, some less -...

  10. Rust Stain Removal

Someone suggested a product called Magica that would presumably remove rust stains before your very eyes....yea right! Well, here's a before and after shot. It really is amazing stuff. Rust this heavy took a few applications, but within about 10 minutes, the "before" became the "after". ...

  11. Flybridge Removal

I notice that a random pic was the anthd flybridge which had been removed, was sitting on blocks in a warehouse, and was undergoing some type of refurbishment. My questions are: 1) Was the boat in the water or on the hard when removal occurred, 2) How was it removed? A crane or 3-4 brutes hand...

  12. 1976 53 Sportfish

A friend of mine is interested a 1976 53 Hatt Sportfish. I am wondering if anyone that owns or havs experience with one might be able to characterize the vessel in terms of sea keeping, ride, etc. relative to old reliable 55. I think the boat has 12v71s rated at 725. Thanks TG

  13. Steering fluid capacity

Can anyone give me an estimate of how much fluid my Hynautic system will take? I have 2 helms (FB and cockpit) as well as an autopilot pump on the bridge. I believe it is the HS20 model. Thanks.

  14. Main H2O intake hose change

The main raw water lines in my boat look like they've been there since 1979 when it was built, and are showing signs of exterior cracking. So, this afternoon after a good Easter dinner and obligatory post dinner stint on the couch, I went down and removed the stbd water line from the thru-hull to...

  15. Water in Galley Maid Windlass Gearbox

I visited the boat this weekend to come across oil oozing down the bow of the boat. There was a pool of oil in front of the windlass (model BBHW) and since the pulpit is slanted forward, the oil went down the pulpit and down the hull side. I called Galley Maid about this today and...

  16. Is it just me, or do these seem a bit pricey?

I just received 4 sets of Groco strainer gasket kits from my friends at Sams. Now I know Hatt stuff isn't cheap, and I've never bellyahced about prices with them before, but... Each set includes a total of 4 gaskets: two 6" x 1/4" round rubber gaskets, one 4" rubber gasket, and one plastic...

  17. Gauge or Sender?

Stb Temp gauge is acting up. If I turn the key and leave it on, or start the motors, it creeps up quickly to nearly the full range of the gauge. If I disconnect the wire at the sender, the gauge drops to 0. Put the wire back on and it starts climbing again. I'm guessing sender....but hoping...

  18. Need some input...

I have a buddy that may have found a boat for me on the coast. Its a sportfish, either a 68 or 69 model and between 34 to 36 feet in...

  19. sweet spot question

I have 426 Wedge engines (with mechanical fuel pumps) I am going to make up the following numbers: If I am going 13 knots on 3000 rpm, and half the speed at half the rpm (6.5 knots on 1500 RPM), then I see no difference in fuel economy on either speed right? So the speed at which my speed...
