  1. Bimini Fabric

Hopefully this passes the test as Tech Talk, as it is a request for help with the properties of fabrics that can be used to construct bimini tops. Another season, some more thunder storms and my 4 yeas old Sunbrella bimini has multiple tears, and its time for a new one. The tears are all located...

  3. Block Heaters - Keep Burning Out

I am getting low life on my block heaters - like a couple of months. Anyone have a thoughts as to why these are burning out so quickly? TG

  4. Another spark plug question

What should the plug look like in a properly burning engine. I get confused when reading plugs from different types of engines. 2 cycle jet ski engins are suposed to be a light brown. However I was reading the service manuel for my Harley and they say white plug, glossy brown means running too...

  5. 2 holding tanks?

I am learning my way around our 1971 43' DC. Both heads are plumbed into a holding tank under the fwd cabin sole. In the center of the engine room there is an access plate with several pipe plugs in it. is this another holding tank that has been disconected?

  6. Larger props for Lil Hatts

I saw the post for larger props on the big Hatts and wanted to provide my recent experience on a smaller boat. I have struggled with the factory sized props on my 31 express cruiser. It is easy to calculate slip, which I was off the chart on, and it shows when trying to run in a swell, the boat...

  7. Spark plug size

My boat has 1965 426 Chrysler Engines. The current spark plugs I have been using are champion RJ14YC. I have used this type for 2 years, replacing them each year. These are the same type that PO had used. I just realized tonight while reading the manual that I should be using 14 MM size plugs,...

  8. Repowering a 58 for trawler speed

Just wondering how much hp would be needed to push a 58 along at trawler speed. Was thinking a pair of 6-71n @ 310 might work but not sure. Thoughts? (Yes, even though I'm currently boatless, there is a specific reason I ask)

  9. Grease-Pooping Cabinet Hinges

I have a 1980 Hatt. Some of you may recall my rants about how Hatteras cabinet hardware evolved into crapware over the years. The hinges on my cabinet doors leave tiny poop balls of grease every time the door is opened or closed. It shows up real well in my crew head over the white...

  10. North American Rockwell Boats

I have been looking at late 70's 53 motoryachts and read a exerpt from an article by David Pascoe that seemed to imply that the electrical systems in these years were trouble? I would appreciate any comments. Also the boat that interests me most (1978) has original 8v71TI's with 1400 hrs. Will I...

  11. Charging circuitry problem

I have a problem with the circuitry for my port engine (DD 8V71N). The alternator is not outputting any charge to the battery bank. I have had the alternator and the regulator tested at our local automotive electrical shop and they are both OK. So my guess is that there is a wire someplace that...

  13. Festoon light bulbs

I have a "masthead" running light that needs a mini 32 volt festoon bulb, but all I can find are the longer 32's. Anybody know where I can purchase this bulb and if not, can I buy a resistor and place it in series in the hot wire going to the bulb and step it down to 12 volts to get the...

  16. What am I looking at (electrical part in generator)

Can anyone tell me what this is? It looks like it connects to the unit underneath, but it is missing a wire on the right side. I pulled it out to get a better read but most of the writing is wiped off.. http://www.europeanonyx.com/tosyali/2008/Hatt_projects/whatisthis.htm

  17. 32 volt to 24 volt conversion

I noted an earlier thread that addresses converting from 32 to 12 volt DC. Has anyone investigated converting from 32volt to 24 volt. I think wire size might be less of an issue? Also, I noted that on the last run 1987 and 1988 53MY I have looked at a couple with 24 volt systems. I do not know if...

  19. A/C Water Temp gauge

I took my first ride of the season from my bridge yesterday to shake down the bridge electronics. Ambient air temp was at about 100 degrees. All went well but one of my electrical A/C gauges on the bridge was reading way off. I have engine room mechanical gauges so I was not terribly concerned but...

  20. Replacing AC gauges

I am replacing the AC oil pressure and water temperature gauges and senders on my 43DC FBMY. I am looking at Stewart Warner. For those who have done it, which SW model numbers for the gauges and senders did you use? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks. Ron
