  1. Prop shaft bearing maintenance

Being a recent purchaser of a 1987 Hatteras 40' motor yacht, getting well maintenance acquainted is a slow but very important process for me. I can't find access to the pickings on my prop shafts to see if they need tightening. Can anyone explain this process to me?

  2. How much is enough?

In 2005 I overheated the port engine--450 hp 6v92--shutting down immediately upon hearing the alarm. No issues since cleaning the exchanger. About 500 hours later, I discover water in the oil. The mech tore down the engine and found both o-rings on the #2 cylinder had failed both in the same...

  3. New Hatteras Owner Seeking Advice

I'm a relatively new Hatteras owner (4 months) and I am a bit overwhelmed. I live aboard the boat. It is a 1981 43' Double Cabin. Have so many questions, don't know where to start. Here goes in no particular order. 1. My boat seems to be sitting low in the water. How low should it sit? ...

  4. lots of moisture

Last night i saw a water mark running down the port side of the V berth. I investigated and found the whole anchor locker soaking wet. Condensation was dripping off the ceiling of the locker. Also, the Fwd hatch has lots of condensation as well. My wife and I have been using the FWD shower...

  6. Small Problem!

Preparing to install new washer/dryer. I replaced 2 blowers, one of them a 32vdc generator exhaust blower. It worked fine, but later started tripping the breaker immediately on start up. I traced the problem to a "hot" motor case. If I take the grounding strap off, the blower works fine. Touch the...

  9. Shaft Log

Hi All, I am reconditioning the stuffing boxes on my 1982 46C with 2 1/2 inch propeller shafts. The old shaft log hoses where not correct, (thin walled hydraulic hose 8 inches long) I have purchased the correct heavy walled hose which is sold in 12" lengths. Question; what length should the shaft...

  10. Air Conditioning Malfunction with Genny Power

I’m not sure what the problem is, but I’m going to look to the genny first. Recently, we began having difficulty running the newest air conditioning system (the one in the salon/galley which is now almost a year old) when we’re on genny power and wasn’t sure where to start looking. The problem...

  12. Compressed Air System

My compressed air system is not charging when I run the engine. After shut down air blows out of the relief valve. My best guess is I should replace teh relief valve and see what happens. But before going with my guess I thought I would see if anyone here has a better idea. Thanks in advance....

  13. Galley remodel grows

Hi Friends, Happy New Year! So I figured out that the three lower cabinets that make up most of the island are one piece solid hardwood face and will fit perfectly in place of the ugly fake-mirror wet bar on the aftdeck. Now the wetbar is out and the original cabinets are sitting in its place...

  15. Water Water, O' Where Are You Coming From?

Every time it rains 3 to 4 gallons of water will be deposited in my bilge. I have checked everwhere and cannot find how the water is getting there. It seems to be starting on the Starboard side as the channels along the keel are sometimes wet. Water is clear and not salty so it has to be rain. I am...

  17. Bilge Blower

I need to replace two bilge blowers. Mechanic says that existing blowers are not moving enough air to keep engines from vapor locking. (gas). Recommended a blower made by Delta T Lil' Champ- a 4 inch, 350 CFM, 12V, Flex mount. About $160. This is the smalles blower that Delta T makes. Most of...

  20. Whirlppool Washing Machine - Piggy Back Model

Just heard from the mechanic. The Whirlpool Piggy back washer dryer washing machine works in all modes other than hot wash/cold rinse. So, warm/warm/warm/cold/cold cold is fine.
